Dealer Allocation Question (long)

On May 7, I ordered a 2011 1LT. At that time, and before I signed the order, I asked the salesman if they had a sufficient allocation, or allotment, so that my car would have a reasonable chance of being produced in the first week of the 2011 production, or shortly thereafter. He checked with the sales manager and stated that this should not be a problem, and even wrote on my order that my car would be the first car to come out of their allocation. I therefore left the dealership thinking that my car would be produced in early June.

To date, my order status is still at 1100, i.e., has not progressed one whit. I have called the dealership three times and even changed my order, thinking that the spare tire option might be the cause for the delay. Still no luck or movement on my order. Finally, yesterday, another person at the dealership informed me that their allocation was holding my car up. I asked him if they, in fact, had an allocation and he said yes, BUT they would not get the allocation for another two or three weeks. He assured me that they had not yet ordered any other 2011's, except mine, and that mine was still the first to come out of their allocation. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed at this revelation since I felt that I had a fairly good understanding of what to expect at the time of my order.

This is a fairly large dealership in a fairly large town and they have quite a few of 2010's on the lot. You would think that they would not have an allocation problem, for at least one car, based on their apparent volume.

My question(s) is, does it sound reasonable that a fairly large dealer should have an allocation problem for the 2011's since mine is the only one orderd so far? In general, are the allocations made on a weekly basis, monthly basis or what? I am prepared to wait it out but would appreciate any and all comments in this regard.
