How much octane boost can you put in your tank?
How much can you boost your octane before you will damage somthing in your engine? If I want to boost my octane from pump 94 octane to 104 racing octane, how many can's of octane boost do I need?
I am taking my Camaro down to Mid-Ohio to race one of my customers that keeps telling me how great his hopped up Honda S1000 and how he is going to blow me away. I don't even know what a Honda S1000 even is but I want to shut his big mouth by whipping him like a rented mule. My plan was to drive my Camaro SS/RS/M6 down to Mid-Ohio on Sunoco 94, then I want to fill it up and add as much octane booster as I can without damaging anything. Russ |

Russ - You don't want to do that. If you can get Sunoco 94 that is all you need. If you boost octane past that on a stock engine you will most likely LOSE power, not gain it. The M6 has 10.7 CR and is optimized for 93 octane. If you slow the burn down too much (higher octane) the power will go down also. If you car had forced induction or nitrous, that would be a different story. Now go whip his butt anyway !!

All I could find was a Honda S2000 also, that must be what he has. The S2000 only has like a 260HP 4 cylinder engine it! That would give the Camaro SS a challenge?
Thanks for the info, I am a rookie at this stuff as you may have noticed. But I'm not afraid of looking stupid by asking questions, that is how we all learn. I thought any car would perform better with higher octane, as usual I was wrong..LOL. Before I decided to post this on the forum my plan was to get 5-6 cans of that Octane 104 and dump it in the tank. What is VP racing gas and where do I find it? Isn't racing gas just higher octane fuel? Russ |

VP makes a whole series of racing fuels. They run from around 100 octane to 120+ octane. FYI - remember racing fuel is A LOT more expensive. We bought some 110 octane at South Georgia Motorsports Park at C5 Fest for my friend and 4 gallons was $36.00. C-16 is even worse at about $12/gallon. |

First off unless you suck at driving completely you will shellac that S2000 no problem.
Secondly Octane boost hardly boosts anything, those things are a joke, those "4 octane points" they claim is actually 0.4 on the same scale you see at the pump. You wanna crank it up get some 100 octane race gas. That said the cars not tuned for it so I'm not sure how much gain you will get, probably not worth it. Fill up with Sunoco Ultra 94 if you can, I'm sure you will be fine.

I used to work for their advertising agency. All I'll say is, save your money on the 104 octane boost.
What kind of "race" are we talking about?
