Not one. Personally, I wouldn't do it. I've never disconnected the battery for the MULTIPLE installs I have done. Don't see any reason to start now.

Thanks.
So the PCM will go through a re-learn phase and re-establish certain perameters so that your new bolt on will see optimal gains.

Of course, leaving it connected you'll see those same changes, but it will take anywhere from 150-500 miles.

It won't hurt to do it and, hey, at least Onstar won't know where you are for a few minutes...lol..

Well the problem is the computer system has a battery backup in it. So pulling the battery is not resetting anything but window indexing unless left disconnected for days.

To reset the ECM just pull fuse 5 and 20 in the engine fuse box for 1 hour at least. This will get the computer to reset to default and relearn everything when you fire up the car.

I recommend letting the car idle for 10 minutes after doing this to let the computer learn. The drive easy for the first 10-20 miles before doing a WOT for the computer to learn faster.

Well, if something happens and you didn't disconnect the battery like the manu. says, they will tell you they can't help you. Food for thought, it only takes five mins to disco and connect again.

So, for those who have installed CAI's - just follow the instructions and I'll be good?

I've always disconnected the battery for 10 mins so the computer can reset itself. Like everyone else said, its not mandatory but recommended so the computer resets and learns the new modifications.

That is why sometimes a CEL comes on and then turns off after 50 miles or so. The computer is trying to learn the new mods. By reseting the battery you are starting off fresh again.

Yep, you won't have any problems with that. Your car will relearn the Air to fuel ratio just fine with normal driving.
