HP Tune question

I took my 2SS L99 in for headers/exhaust/and an HP tune recently. The shop said my car was so new (built on January 11, 2010) that HP didn't have a tune for it yet, so they sent my stock tune to HP to have them create a tune file for my car. When they got the new tune file back, they then used that software to dynotune my car.

When I drove it home, I punched it a bit on the expressway and it didn't feel right. It seemed to hesitate when it was shifting as I accelerated instead of just taking off and pulling hard through each shift. I thought maybe the tires slipped because it had rained earlier that day.

Well, since then, this has happened to me at least 3 more times. At a meet up of some Camaro friends last weekend, one of the folks there (who I won't name here, but let me say he knows what he's talking about) said that the tune needs to be adjusted because the car is "flaring" because the torque management is not correct in the tune. He said the transmission is not locking in at each shift and the transmission seems to be slipping when it shifts. (That was my understanding anyway.)

So, I called the shop that did the tune on Monday and explained this to them. They say that the tune I got has only 2 parameters they can adjust. They said the "older cars" had like 10 parameters they can adjust. So they said they may not be able to do anything about my problem, but they will look at it tomorrow.

Does this sound right to you guys?

B.S., there are hundreds of parameters for the engine and trans in hptuners, all they had to do was get the latest beta file from hpt.

I see you are in Ohio...how far from Detroit? Just got my car back form Livernois...those guys are seriously on their game. They have cars from other shops that they are "correcting". The tune they gave my L99 is fantastic. Might be worth a call...

Ace:
I have seriously considered that. But, I just spent hundreds of dollars on this tune and thousands on the other work. I can't afford Livernois at this point.

It's only about 3 hours from my house to Detroit though...

If I got that route, should I have the shop restore my stock tune first? I don't have the stock tune file as of now.

doesnt really matter, you can get stock files all over the net, including the hpt forum,, when you buy hpt you get access to there database of files,, then you just read the file in your car and do a file compare with a stock file and it will show you all the changes they made to your file

I went to hpt's website and they have a disclaimer that if I don't have the stock tune on my car, then their software may not work.

Ugh. I just hope the shop gets it right. When they said they can only adjust 2 parameters, that just sounded so wrong. I didn't talk directly to the guy who does the tuning though. But the boss was passing a message to me from him. I'll let you know what happens.

if they used hpt,, then anyone with hpt can tune your car, including you if you purchase hpt

they are talking about other tuning software like efi-live,, if you apply an efi-live custom o/s to your pcm, then hpt will not be able to read the file.

????

hptuners is not like a hand held canned tune,, with hptuners you have control of thousands of parameters in the ecm / tcm and hptuners doesnt make tunes for your car, they just supply the software to read/ flash/ change parameters in your file, whoever tunes your car makes the actuall tune
