Question Oil change now or later?

I have about 2000 miles on my current 3000 mile Mobil 1. I'm leaving dallas for michigan Sunday and I'm wondering if I should get the oil changed now or if it'd be ok to wait til I got there. I would be about 200-300 miles over but that would all be freeway cruising. What do you think guys? At seventy bucks apop I'm not excited about giving up 1000 miles of good oil but I will if I have to.

Your going to get a hundred different answers.....I changed mine at 800 miles, and then again at 4000 miles. Did it myself, all in for $35 Mobil 1 + Mobil 1 filter...

Edit - you probably have miles on it already?? In that case -- no need to change now - you can wait.....

I understand that. My question is how bad is it to go over by 200 miles on the freeway. I already have 10K on it.

IMO -- you are absolutely fine to go over the 3000 miles.. Oil simply doesn't' break down that quickly with normal or even spirited driving.

Just as a side...I moved to the US 10 years ago from the UK, and is the only country I know changes Oil at 3k miles....I owned a 10 year old Porsche and had a BMW 318i as a company crash...Both had 12k mile oil interval changes as stated in the handbook...

With 10k miles on your Camaro - you've pretty much broken her in - your good.....

The 3000 mile interval is way more often than GM requires... an Mobile 1 is good for 10K miles generally (not to exceed 12 months). I change mine every 5000 miles, which for me is every 12 months.

So I guess my dealer is shafting me by telling me to come in every 3000 miles. See I always wondered because on my last car when I went to Mobil to get the oil changed, the Mobil 1 was good for 5000 miles. Guess I'll have to have a talk with them.

Not really...The "trend" has been to change it at 3k. Couldn't hurt i guess but with todays motors and how clean they run 5k would be just fine. the 3k just says "hey, i care about my car and go the extra mile" ... thats just me though..

I used to faithfully change my oil every 3,000 miles on all other cars. With this car I changed at 1,500 and again at 3,000. I now change every 5,000 miles (not what the DIC says). Still maybe a little overkill cause the DIC usually says I have 50% life left....I'm just old school and kinda hard to break old habits. Changing every 5,000 miles is only 3 times a year for me and I do it myself so the cost is minimal. I may be a little crazy, but just feel better changing more often then waiting the 10,000 miles that the would DIC recommend.

So to answer your question: No harm will be done if you go a few hundred over on an oil change. In fact, every 3,000 on this car is way overkill.
