Cool Questions about shifting and something about moving on 1st gear w/o hitting the gas

uhmm idk if im on the right forum. hehe
if somebody could like help AGAIN with my question it'd be AWESOME lol

1.
Uhm it's about shifting gears.. from first to second gear i shift on a thousand rpm then for second-third i shift when rpm's at 2k-3k same as with third to fourth and fourth to fifth and then sixth. but then a friend told me i shift tooo early. he said something about the minimum for shifting is about 4k O...O i tried shifting at 4k it didn't feel right O..O my Bruce ROARED at me -..-

2.
and is it okay to move on first gear w/o hitting the gas pedal? hehe coz a friend asked me if i could make my bruce move on first gear w/o hitting the gas pedal and i was like yea. then i showed him lol

i think that myself and many others on here COULD tell you the right answer, but it's like learning Karate from a book - you need some one there to show you and teach you how to shift properly. There's really is no magic number for RPMs but i guess it's a starting point...each car is different make and model is different, so it's all about feeling when to shift. Really, you can shift at any RPM as long as you handle it right with the clutch, the shift will be smooth. good luck!

Im in the same boat as you. Im coming of a celica that is gutless on first and Im in the habit of shifting my 2Lt camaro out of irst at like 1000 RPM. Im always scared to take first to 3K like my friends tell me too. Anyone Camaro Pro's here have any tips:
BTW Ive always driven Manuals in all cars ive owned for the last years, But this is the first performance car ive owned.

Also Welcome to the Camaro family ...

Drive the car how it "feels". You will know when you need to shift, don't worry about your ffriends.

you really have to ask this question?

shift when you need to... if your going for all out acceleration, 1k is low.

if your just cruising around, 1k is fine.

the level of lack of common sense sometimes surpirses me here. and yes, it's perfectly fine to get a rolling start from just easing in the clutch in 1st, nothing wrong with it (though, if you really want to be particular with it; it will eat up the clutch a small % more then engaging it quickly).

it's not "lack of common sense" it's friggin doubting which is right.. to "feel" when to shift or to shift how a friend with an AE86 [who tells you that if i shift too soon im sacrificing either the tranny or the clutch ]tells me to. -..-

meanie!

but that's what i'm getting at... there is no "right"

you either shift too low and you can hear/feel the lugging of the car as the rpm is trying to catch up to your vehicle speed or you shift "too high" and your more then likely passing up the speed limit on any given road in 2nd (tops out at 70mph+ in the SS).

in either case, your still doing it right by engaging the next gear sucessfully; i say common sense because of that fact alone. drive as you will, learn as you may and all that.

Use the ten mile per hour rule, second @ twenty, third @ thirty, fourth @ forty, fifth @ fifty, sixth @ sixty. This is for normal driving. For acceleration, shift @ redline. To pass, downshift a gear or two.

I hate to say it but you answered your own question..."i shift whenever i feel like there's a need to shift". All cars are the same theory.

Give it a gear...when the isnt any more, give it another!
