Oil Filters

I'm coming up due for my first oil change, and I know when I had my Silverado, that the GM filters were very restrictive, I used K&N oil filters and noticed a big difference.

I was wondering if it was just as noticable with these larger engines, and what filters anyone recomends, I'm thinking of sticking with K&N since they've been pretty good to me unless you guys know better.

AC Delco has always worked for me, although i can't say for my camaro as i am just about to change the oil myself and I'm at 660 or so miles.

How in the world did you notice a oil filter was too restrictive?

PF48 is the perfect filter for the application. You can pay more and accomplish nothing.

It's actually quite simple when you know your vehicle, how it performs, and watching the gauges. The stock GM filter on the 5.3 is good but you get better oil pressure and quicker responses using the K&N on those engines. I'm not as fimiliar with the L99 and LS3 yet.

I switched to the Mobil 1 oil filter. Car seems to run a little better and the oil pressure is not as high.

I thought there was a consensus to do the first oil change at 1500?

I did mine at 500, 1500, and will be doing another at 3,000. Then every 3k. Some will say thats a waste of money, but hey its my money.

And, personal preference. I'm about 670 on mileage. And, I'm learning to drive stick as well. But I love it, just hate 1st gear at the moment.

K&N filters flow very well, but they don't filter that great. When trying to protect your engine, what would you rather have? Better flow, or better filtration? For the health of the engine, you would want better filtration.

Now, what length of OCI are you doing? Are you going to follow your OLM? If so, that will generally put you at 10,000 to 12,000 miles. With that type of OCI, I wouldn't run anything other than Mobil 1, Amsoil, or Royal Purple filters. If you are not going to go by the OLM and change the oil at 7,500 miles or less, then a WIX, Purolator, or AC Delco will work great.

I will never use a K&N oil filter.

For me I stick with AC Delco. They are made by the exact same company that makes the Mobil 1 oil filters, in the exact same plant, on the exact same line. The only difference being that they have a different label and cost a whole lot less.

Not quite. Almost all of the AC Delco filters are moving to the Ecore design...most are already there. That design replaces the metal center cage with plastic. No way that thing is going on my engine. AC Delco filters are not the same as Mobil 1 filters either. Mobil 1 filters are made with synthetic materials, the AC Delco's are not.

Have you ever cut both open and looked at them? I assure you they are NOT the same filter. There is no way in hell that an AC Delco filter will last as long as a Mobil 1. Just because Champion makes both (also makes K&N and STP as well) doesn't mean they are the same.

I am not being a jerk or anything in any kind of way. I am just showing how dumb I am by asking this question. I use RP in my SRT8 charger along with the filter and they worked great to me. Now with that said, everyone on here is saying RP will void the warranty and everything, but what about using their filters? Will that void warranty? Sorry for the stupied question.

Not a dumb question at all. Those oils will void your warranty, but the oil filters will not. Use them with confidence.
