Painting C.A.I. Box

I bought two cans of orange-red Chevrolet spraypaint for engine enamel. I'm going to paint the grey part of my engine cover and fuse box. I have my CAI Inc. Cai coming and I would like to paint the box that covers the air filter. I know it's a popular air intake and was wondering if anyone has painted theirs? Is the box made of aluminum and how well would engine enamel paint hold onto it.

As for my engine cover and fuse box, I don't think I'm even going to sand it or primer it. Just gonna clean it up well and spray em.

Do what you like, but every time i have rattle-caned something plastic and cut corners (no primer, no roughing up) i have ALWAYS had to go back and re-do it later on, sometimes a year down the line, sometimes a few months. You dont have to sand, but i would recommend a good scrub down with a "greenie" (green brillo like non-soaped thing) to scratch the surface up a bit, then a good coat of primer. Wait the allotted time for curing and then hit it with a few light coats of final, waiting the appropriate time in between (see the back of your can of choice). I would say this is probably doubly important for the engine cover, as i understand they can get a fair amount of heat thrown their way, i would think that cutting corners with the prep on that part might end up in regret later on down the line (even though your using a high temp paint).

YMMV though, i am by no means a professional painter
