Legality of colored halos

I see everyone putting colored halos on but no discussion if they are legal or not. Any input is appreciated.

the ABSOLUTE BEST thing for you to do would be to talk to you LOCAL/STATE law enforcement official and get the the "HOT POOP" for your location.......however, as far as I know, its ILLEGAL to have RED/BLUE on the front of your car.....other colors are fine.

No offense to any LEOs on the site but many don't know the laws... not all of them at least. I'm sure most would tell you as such, but some tend to preach their belief of what the law is as what it actually is. Your BEST best would be to look up your state and local ordinances yourself. Possibly time consuming but it's going to be one of the few ways you'll get an answer that is actually meaningful.

Thanks for the replies. I just found this.

N.J.S.A.39:3-50 Color of Lamps
  • White or amber lights are required for the front of the vehicle.
  • Red or amber lights are required to the rear of the vehicle.
  • Permit required for flashing lights.
Doesn't make mention of other colors though.

Did you just say many cops don't know that laws??

Hmm...aside from state statutes, check city ordinances too. I know we have one here called "additional lighting" which let's cops pull you over for any type of aftermarket lighting...which include colored halos.

I can almost guarantee that red/blue halos are illegal everywhere. That's a huge no no.

White and amber are the only colors allowed to be seen from the front in Tennessee when the car is on the street, you can have about anything on them if you are sitting in a parking lot or in a show . but not on the street...
