Is the WRX STI sales competition for Camaro?

turbocharged 2.5L DOHC horizontally opposed (boxer) 4-cylinder engine
305hp and 290 lb/ft
6-speed manual transmission
all-wheel drive
3.90:1 final drive ratio
0 - 60 mph : 4.97 seconds
1/4 mile : 13.44 seconds @ 101.7 mph
MSRP including delivery = $39,440
optional center armrest = $163
optional BBS wheels = $2000
optional BBS wheels + navigation = $3800
(navigation not avaiable separately)

How many of you realized the WRX STI was a $40K+ car?

depends what were comparing it to.

firstly if its vs a v8 its no contest for "racing", but for dirt rally riding itll get owned

the v6 will prolly still beat it due to the setup, however a more knowledge car enthusiast can easily trump my verdict

straight line the ss will own. in the twisties the sti will probably win but the ss has more power so it would be close. the 6 will get owned no matter what

Every car is competition for the Camaro. Some more than others.

I don't think anyone here thinks it will handle badly. The SS suspension is supposed to be really good and everyone who has driven the car has had positive things to say about the handling.

Just because it's not as good as a $40,000 track car doesn't mean it will be bad

As it has already been stated, no. This car is Evo competition, two different cars.

RWD v6/v8 coupe Vs. AWD turbo4 sedan...wagon.....thing...?

The STI is a great machine, but it is a different machine. Comparing a well-balanced muscle car and an AWD import isn't the most ridiculous thread on this forum.

I wouldn't say that STI sales impede Camaro SS sales. While they are close in the price range of $35k-40k cars, the 2SS will have more features than a base STI and the Camaro is just cooler. Being cool alone makes the Camaro SS a winner.

If you want to show how far apart they are, you can always argue that the target audiences are different. Chevrolet and Subaru designed their cars very differently and enter each car in totally different events. For example, the STI will be off-roaded and used in autocross. The Camaro will be drifted and taken to the track. They're both very capable machines, but the Camaro will be more likely to steal STI sales than any alternative.

The latest generation made it look like a Ford Focus. There is a guy that lives by me that has one. I can't believe one would pay that much money for that car. I have driven the Lancer EVO and it is fun, but absolutely no power till the turbo kicks in. It has a very narrow power band. It's great in cornering and bad weather. Not a drag car. And way overpriced.

No offense, but I have driven plenty of cars and have owned plenty of fast cars. I owned a GTO, and my STI i have now has more power then my GTO. To say they don't have power until the turbo kicks in is completely ridiculous. You are right it isn't a drag car but it sure as hell does have power.
