4 pack cluster gauges

I went to the dealership today to ask about getting a 4 pack cluster gauges installed on my LT1. The guy said for parts and install would be around $500. My question is it better to buy from a parts house and install yourself or have the dealer do it. I have never installed anything like this and don't want to get in over my head. Any thoughts suggestions?

Depending where you order your gauges they can range from $372 to $396. I believe list price is $425. It should take no more than an hour to install so dealers will probably charge you for an hour. Not sure what your dealers hourly rate is but if it's $90 then you can see how it's approaching $500. So yeah, if you want the dealer to do it they will most likely charge you list price plus the 1 hour install time.

I've installed the gauges into my 1SS myself and it was pretty straight forward. The included instructions show you how to install them. The only part that took extra time was removing the 12V plug since I did not have the removal tool. I was able to do it without it.

There are multiple threads with pictures of the install process on the forum.

The only issue I had when doing the install was getting the power socket out of the console. I broke part of the door hinge before I figured it out (elevate upside down on ground, put screwdriver through socket, push down on ends of screwdriver, done).

Other than that the install was straightforward & easy, and the results look excellent.

Agreed, it's easy to do yourself. And if you have problems, you can always come here. Save a couple bucks on labor. =D

I got mine from ChevyPartsPlus.com for $325 if I'm not mistaken and I installed them myself in less than 20min's. It's a simple, straight forward install and if I can do it, anyone can.
Just check with Cary Laurenson at Chevypartsplus.com and he can make it happen for you. Just let him know not type of C5 you have as far as auto or manual etc........ I too have the LT1 with upgrade. All I need now is a leather steering.

Question

I went to my dealer the other day to see how much the gauges where there. The guy was telling me to buy the complete cluster replacement that would go in a RS complete with 12v plug and traction button already on it. Will this work in a LT1 do you have to buy a new jumper that runs from side console to the main plug on the replacement gauges. The one he showed me has everything wired into one main plug. Does anyone know if this will work?

So you got the complete cluster with 12v and traction control button already installed on the plate? Not just the gauges and a patch cable where you used your exsisting 12v and traction control switches? the one he was showing me looked like you just pulled out the one old one along with your 12v and traction control buttons and used the new ones all built in to the plate. Did you buy the cable that went straight into one plug that powered everything (12v,traction, and gauges)? Hope that made sense. Looks like it is a replacement part for a Camaro that already had the gauges in it.

Yes, that's what I did on mine, The 12 volt power connector has tabs inside of the connecter (near the top) that need to be released, just take your time and it will lift out from the top.
