USB Folder/playlist Rentention?
I think this may have been answered in another USB thread, but I searched and couldn't find conclusively. Hoping someone can help:
Just got my Camaro, loaded 2 gigs of songs into different folders onto a USB flash drive. I am able to search for folders and songs fine in the car, and can move between songs in a folder. When I shut the car off though and come back to it, it will continue to play the song it was on, but now has sorted all songs in all folders alphabetically, so it plays the next alphabetical song, rather than the next song in the folder. I have to go through the menus again to select the specific folder I want, to get back to the folder. Is there a way for the system to retain which folder or playlist I'm in, without having to search for it, after shutting the engine off? By the time the current song is over, I'm already on the road, and would rather not have to play around with menus while driving. Thanks! |

Short answer: No.
Even if you have every song on the USB drive located in the main directory and not sorted into folders, it will always start up with the songs in alphabetical order by the song title that is listed in the ID3 tag information.

Buy an iPod. The song indexing is done on the device only on the iPod. Every other device, including USB flash drives, are re-indexed each time the car is started.
No way around this that I am aware of right now.

As far as I know, the system will always default to alphabetical-by-title sorting when you turn it on. It's definitely annoying when I feel like listening to a specific album while I'm out doing multiple errands and I have to go back and pick that album after every stop I make.

I have found, though, that whenever I get gas, if I turn my car off with the halos still on, when I get back in and start the car, my radio still "remembers" that I had it set to Random Play for my USB stick...
Not sure as to the why, but it's handy for quick stops.

Well, I think the car technically stays "ON" for 10 minutes if you leave an accessory on like the headlights. So maybe by not powering off it's not wiping the index on the PDIM...
