horspower lose from engine to rear wheels question
does anybody have a real way to figure out the hp lose from engine to the rear wheels. my dyno run said 377 to rear wheels.
ive heard every rumor number from 10% to 17%... is there any way to figure this out in my 1ss MANUAL with an actual formula or anybody have real data on this instead of " my friend said E=MC SQUARED TO THE FLUX CAPACITOR" ect ect ect thansk for any help Last edited by billyspeed; 06-28-2010 at 10:16 PM. |

10-15% for a manual and 15-18% for an auto is pretty common.
SAE certified horsepower is 426 crank horsepower so that puts you in the 11-12% loss range. Pretty much on the money.

377 x 100 / 85 = 444 for using roughly 15%
377 x 100 / 88 = 428 for using roughly 12% Thats the formula for figuring somewhere around 12 to 15 % loss. The only way to know the exact number would be to dyno the engine out of the car. |

If you wanted to get exact, it's a combination of a percentage and a fixed value...
 12% is usually a decent estimate of drivetrain loss. |
