Vent thread, who wants to hear some BS?
Okay, I'm gonna do a little venting if that's okay guys. Its a long read, and might be hard to understand at times, so i apologize ahead of time.
I work for a company that constructs cell phone towers and wind turbine towers. For this job there is a lot of travel using company trucks and climbing of the towers. So its quite dangerous, but using the right equipment it is safe (harnesses, safety lines etc...) So for this job I need a Department of Transportation physical certification. I had this physical 2 and a half weeks ago. Passed everything fine. I get towards the end of the appointment and the doctor testing me asks about something I filled out on my medical history form. On the form i called it vertigo. which in retrospect was stupid for me to say, because i do not have vertigo. 5 years ago I had a episode of dizziness that lasted for a few hours. I had to go to an urgent care the next day to find out what was wrong with me. Well it was just a dizzy spell caused by an ear ache and congestion that i was experiencing earlier in the week. No big deal. Now when i said vertigo on my medical history sheet, a tick went off in the testing companies head and was like. oh hes a huge liability. But in fact, i do not have vertigo, it was dizziness related to ear ache and congestion. So now i get this DOT physical and they say i cannot be passed without viewing my medical records from that event (because i disclosed it on my medical history form) 5 years ago. So i hustle around to get them these documents. Another week goes by and i get a call from this testing service, they say that i still cant be passed until i see a neurologist, just to ensure there is nothing wrong with my brain. im like...wtf!? so i play along, i go see the neurologist, last friday. I have an MRI and a VNG test done. i go back this past monday and talk with the neurologist, about the test results. He said everything looks fine. So they send these results over to the testing company. later in the day i get an email from the head physician at the testing company and he says theres still abnormalities in the test results and cant pass me. So now im like ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() :mad0 260:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() : mad0260:![]() ![]() ![]() I say to him, the neurologist said everything is fine. what is the problem? he says because he administered the MRI and VNG test it was probable cause to deny me of the DOT certification. Im like. WELL YOU GUYS TOLD ME TO GO SEE A NEUROLOGIST! Thats what they DO! they run tests to see if anything is wrong!!!! A few more emails go back and forth, and finally he says that when he spoke with the neurologist they both agreed that there was too much liability for me to work for this cell tower/wind turbine company. CLimbing of the towers, and driving the company trucks classified as commercial vehicles. So then i jump on the horn with the neurologist and tell him what the head physician said. and he says, NO NO NO! i never agreed with him. There is nothing wrong with you you should be cleared. Also mind you that i have not had any dizziness or anything similar for the past 5 years. Now im super pissed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This head physician is a real prick. I sent him a long email today calling him out of his obvious lie about the neurologist agreeing that i am a liability. and that he understands the dizziness was related to an ear ache and congestion. I even scanned a copy of the past medical records and sent them to him highlighting the areas that say "dizziness caused by soar throat and congestion." I have not heard from him since. Now i have to get another neurologists opinion to submit an appeal to this dickholes decision at the testing company. *breath* Soooooo all the meanwhile, i cannot work until this gets resolved. Which means the rest of this week and probably most of next week. I have another neurologist appointment next tuesday. OH and by the way all the neurologist appointments are on my dime. Thank god i am still covered on my moms insurance until i am 26. I am Not getting paid, nothing. Im super Pissed. I told this head physician, that he is going to put me out of a job, and that i have bills to pay. He says i understand, but you are just too much of a liability. wtf, a liability because nothings wrong with me or what? So yea. What a bunch of crock right? Opinions and comments welcome. Cliffs: needed a dot certification for job couldnt pass, needed past medical records still couldnt pass, needed to see neurologist passed neurologist, still didnt pass dot physical becuase of prick head physician at DOT certification testing place not working until situation is resolved

Sux... Problem is tho, if he passes you and you fall, he does too.
Bet you'd like to go back and change your answer to "none" They're all over us for sleep apnea testing now... It's always something.

I think you made a huge mistake when you put vertigo on that form. It was one episode due to an ear ache, not a chronic condition. Sure maybe the doctor at the time pulled out his expensive medical dictionary and said you had vertigo, but unless you had suffered with it for years as a recurring condition, there was no reason for you to put that on the original medical form. Now you must prove beyond any doubt that you do not have vertigo, but did suffer from it because of an ear ache. I hope you can do this and get back to work. Good luck.

I always put NONE on everything.
Thank God I'm not allergic to anything, so putting NONE doesn't hurt me in any way. |

Always be honest on job applications. If they EVER find out, even in the future, they could fire you because you lied on an application or medical form related to your job.
However, make DARN sure if you had not had vertigo, never put that down. Tough break because it was your mistake, but I can also see the DOT protecting themselves. Good luck to you.

And unless you have had cancer or something serious, WITH treatment, or something requiring continual meds, they'll never know. It's a DOT physical. NOT that extensive. |

Well the long and the short is I asked to my HR gal, and she said.....just go to another clinic have the DOT test done.....I wanted to slap her lol. I don't say anything to her I was just like ok...ill do that. But what I wanted to say is why didn't you tell me that 2 weeks ago.
So I have an appointment at another clinic for the physical next Thursday. I will be saying I am healthy as an ox. No problems. No nothing. Just means I miss two weeks of work. Better than losing my job.
