is it possible that bolt ons can cause the ecu to change

not totally sure what the cars computer is call. maybe ecu?

now people talk about how a cat back or CAI will not void your warranty.

i understand that.. but i have heard that with like a CAI or exhaust people have reported the ecu changes by it self trying to adjust to the new mods...

and a dealership will read the ecu and see its not stock. and give them trouble for it...

I doubt anything the computer auto-adjusts for would be a problem. Its the 'tunes' that the dealer could give you grief for.

You don't have a grasp of what the PCM can do. The PCM is made to make changes to conditions and changes. If your filter gets very dirty, ambient temps are extremely hot/cold, etc. the PCM will adapt. If it didn't, your car would run like crap for 5+ months out of the year. What the dealership reads is the actual tune indentification numbers. If the OEM indentification numbers are still there, it's read as the OEM tune and there's no problem there. If your car dropped a piston, they will look to see what caused the problem. They'll look at your PCM data to see is was caused by a lean condition. If it was, they'll look to see if any aftermarket parts could have caused the lean condition. If your fuel trims were way out of whack from a poorly built CAI, that could be the problem and might void the warranty. So saying a CAI will absolutely NOT void your warranty is false. Most CAI companies spend lots of time and $$ making sure their CAI's don't affect FT's negatively to prevent their products from cause this problem. The ones that do make large changes to the FT's will usually say it's a tune ONLY CAI.
