A/C turned hot, and the engine temp rose

Sad day. 80 degrees i fire up my ride for the first time today. The needle moved from left to right a smidge on the temp gauge so i checked it digitally and it read 142 degrees. Thought that was kind of strange being a cold start. Within two minutes the temp rose to 160 and the engine fans kicked on. I proceed down the block and the temp now reads 192 degrees. Wow just like that huh? Both the needle and the digital gauges appeared to be in sync to me. Coolant is full, as are all the fluids so no worries right? I turn on the A/C and it blows cold. Had the A/C topped off a week prior so all is well, nice and cool. Then the A/C starts running hot. I thought being tired it was something i must have did wrong so i double check. A/C on max, dial turned all the way to cool... air blowing hot. Dammit.

Meanwhile back at the temp gauge it's now reading 214 degrees and yes the engine fans are kicking on. What the heck. So... hot air blowing from the A/C, and engine temps running above normal. I thought something was wierd when the engine fans kicked on so soon upon start up. I hope things turn out to be minor as i take her in this wednesday morning.

Thoughts anyone? She's a year old, and i drive her quite mild actually even though she's got the necessary power if called upon.

Did you have on recirculate? Either way, it shouldn't be blowing hot air. Definately have them check it out!! Hope all works out for you. Let us know!!

You don't hear a weird hissing (almost air leaking) noise do you?

Actually i can't hear much over the cam. Just recently i've been watching the engine temp however. Digitally on start up does it always start around 142 degrees? I hadn't thought to look before yesterday.

Are you sure it's actually overheating? Try using a temp gun on it to see if it's a faulty sensor. If it's really as hot as indicated perhaps the water pump is bad. The ac is usually shut down by the computer if the car overheats but it should indicate as such in the DIC.

Ok can we agree that we're all entitled to make dumb observations when we love something. Ok cool Admittingly i was tired (16 hour shift) when i noticed the engine temp... well seems i was quoting the coolant temp rising from 142 to 214 then back down again. I got excitied and thought the engine temp was rising. Also made the mistake of saying/seeing the temp gauge needle rise to the quarter mark on the gauge which would be normal

Why i thought the coolant temp on the DIC and the temp gauge were the same... embarassing

Anyhoo the A/C is still blowing hot so suffice to say it probably occured during the cam swap. The unit had to be bled and removed IIRC then topped off again. Must be a leak somewhere.

Take it easy on me guys we're all entitled to freak out right?

Maybe an air pocket in the engine, that could cause this.

There isn't much to recharging AC. I just charged my friends Lumina that was blowing hot air.

In your case, you may want to get a can of R134a that has the UV die in it, and then take a black light to your car after running it to see if you can find the leak.

It could be that when you had the work done not enough refrigerant got put in there.

AC stuff can be tricky. There are certain pressures that it needs to be based on the outside air temperatures. You could also get the some results of hot air if you have too much in the system as well.

I called Kirk at Vector motorsports who did my cam swap, and he referred me to the A/C guy who's going to do the very same as you mentioned.

Thanks Kirk!

Could be 3 things:
thermostat, the CPU is not reading/working correctly, or your MATRIX is overloading and getting ready to nuke!
