Onstar sales calls

I recently got seven calls from onstar to buy a subscription, and most times they hung up on me when I answered. I told them flatly they will never get my business because of those calls.

They would be wise to check the do not call lists, even if they have the legal right to harass me. Why the hell would I pay someone to call and hang up on me?

I activated mine 12/24/09, have gotten 3-4 monthly diagnostics and haven't heard a peep from them. Other than an occasional email of their services available. I think I would shit if someone started talking to me while I was in the car. Since I can find my way to work and back, I've not had the need to use the turn by turn navigation either - anybody like it?? I'll probably get a Garmin in December when my plan runs out though.. My two cents.

I hate that the 2011 got cut in half but i think im going to atleast do the safe and sound package just because that would be nice to have for an emergency. Even better if the insurance gives a discount.

I just bought my wife a new traverse tonight. I was very put off by the fact that they made us set in the car and talk to onstar to hear their entire bs and sales pitch. I just wanted to get my new car and go home. This is the first time I ever had to do this bs to buy a car with onstar.

I got my first sales pitch from Onstar that went over a very cool song today.
Really bothers me to have someone else controlling a car I just bought, even if it is just the stereo.
I will never pay them a dime for this service just because of that crap.

If the Onstar GM engineers really read this stuff.....FU and F Onstar!

If I wanted to hear a woman's voice that wouldn't shut up talking over my music I would go pick up my ex.

Before I had even sat behind the wheel I had to listen to the full pitch in my own car. It seemed to last 30 minutes. He tried three separate times to get my credit card info. Read the fine print in their contract - if you accidentally use something and they can find any way to bill you they will, even if you signed up for a trial plan.

I did use the GPS several times. It is useful but not very versatile, at least not without calling onstar. I did use the web-based destination via mapquest.

I don't like that I paid for the system but I can't use it even tapped into my own bluetooth GPS. Neither can I use the passive onstar GPS unit without paying them.

Will that be Visa, or Mastercard?

Onstar changed it to being standard for only 6 months of Directions & Connections on the 2011 + model years . I'm not sure what it is for the Safe & Sound Plans ..

From Chevrolet.com (Camaro)website :

Turn-by-Turn Navigation
Put wrong turns behind you with OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation(8) standard for the first six months. Get upcoming turns and street names displayed on the Driver Information Center or hear them from the automated voice. Take a complete tour of OnStar capabilities.

I checked on this for you.

OnStar will NEVER call you unannounced, EVER. (So I am told)

BUT:

XM Will - many random "hang up" calls were tracked back to XM, and they are aware of it.

Many OnStar complaints would be dissolved if dealerships would go over the system and do the welcome calls WITH their customers.

My dealer wanted to do that with me but I had to get to work. So the next day I called and did the welcome with them. Took about 20 minutes or so to do the whole thing... I ended up cutting them a tad short. But OnStar shouldn't be doing that and neither should XM. I guess you could always call and say put me on your no call list (join the Federal list too).

I for one plan on getting OnStar. I want that theft recovery. As far as I'm aware for active subscribers the recovery rate has been 100% (maybe not in the same condition mind you). But everyone I was involved with, went back to the owner. That's a lot better than say LoJack.
