Modding 101 help needed :)

Hi,

I'm thinking about modding my Camaro lightly(eg. CAI,Exhaust,LT headers,HF Cat, Etc...) and just want to make sure that I have a basic grasp of the effects of each kind of mod as far as Check Engine Light is concerned.

The last thing I want after modding my car is having to deal with abnormal issues such as CEL problems.

A cold air intake and an exhaust mod combined will not result in a CEL issue until I have added LT headers and HF Cats, correct?

Say I do go ahead and also install BBK LT headers and HF Cat, what kind of issues would I be facing? Is there a solution that will take care of CEL issues while still allowing the CEL to do it's normal function of detecting other engine issues unrelated to the mods?

You are correct about the exhaust and CAI.

However, the only way to run the LT's and HF Cats without a CEL is to get a tune. For which you will also see better gains form your mods. But, this WILL void your power train warranty.

Check with some of the guys who have done the long tubes. They were able to clear the CEL with an O2 spacer(?) so the tune(although it would optimize the gains from the bolt-ons) is not a requirement.
