SolarWorld Offers $1.3B for Opel

SolarWorld wants to work on Opel cars to make them electric. In order to make this happen, SolarWorld has offered a lot of money to GM for its Opel division. Article is by Leftlane.

Discuss.

GM doesn't want to let go of Opel yet, but I can see it happening early next year.

It could go...but that 1.3B would only last....what.....almost a month???

I don't know if GM would go for that unless it meant getting them by until Obama took office (to get the 25B passed).

A big problem is that it wouldn't really last that long. Most of the transaction is credit.

^Exactly. That 1.3B could literally be paid out as soon as it comes in. What is more important to GM? The revenue from Opel? Or the immediate cash?

How can it go? Every car they make it a "world" car so they'd have a badge and nothing else...

aww man. the opel manta used to be my favorite car when I was a child my aunt had both the A and the B model. i like to call it "germany's camaro". it even was connected to weird stereotype drivers: female, young, blonde hairdressers and guys in cowboy-boots. funnily enough my aunt was exactly that, a blonde hairdresser

people used to invent manta-jokes like:
- "what's the biggest part of a manta? the boobs of the girl in the passenger seat!"
- says one manta-driver to the other "hey i bought a dictionary" and the other one asks "so, already put it on the engine?"
- "how does a manta-driver take a family picture? he puts the whole family in his car and passes a speeding-camera with 200km/h"

a movie called "manta manta" was made in 1991:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102397/

here's two scenes from the movie (how do you imbed youtube videos again?):

Autoblog says that they will give GM 1.3 Billion but will want 1 Billion in compensation for employees. So GM would get about 300 million in cash and 1 billion in credit but then the solar company wants to get 1 billion cash back. That does not make too much sense to me.

That's messy. Leftlane didn't explain it like that. I was under the impression that the company buying Opel could afford to operate.
