iPhone remote acces question

I would like to use my iPhone to navigate. Is it possible to connect iPhone via USB for playing music (and use steering wheel audio controls) + run a nav application on iPhone.

So that the iPhone plays music and navigates at the same time (with fading out the music for nav commands) and outputs both over USB - so that I'm able to switch songs with steering wheel controls.

There are a few Nav programs that allow you to do this already on the iPhone. MotionX GPS Drive will do this (fee based) and I think the latest version of Mapquest 4 Mobile will do background GPS with voice overlay for music, the Mapquest one is free.

So with the mapquest you'll hear the nav commands on your car stere even though the iPhon is connected over the USB/PDIM ?

That would be what I want. Have used mapquest on your phone?

I've used it before. It does talk while the music is playing. If you plug it in and start playing music (through your USB connection or through your Bluetooth) and it'll just talk over the music. It's free so the price is right, I'd give it a try.

Perfect! So you have tested this by your own?! This is exactly the info I was looking for - before buying a PDIM.

thanks.

Yea, I've used it a few times and it works like a champ. Just put in your address and click Start Driving Directions, then once it gets the route click the Green start button at the top right. It'll give you voice guidance from there. It'll speak over the music.
