Straight pipes on an SS?

Anyone done this? How loud is it? (not like you can demonstrate to me exactly how loud, but it can be compared to something)

I am thinking about doing this, I have heard some sound clips on you tube but it is hard to tell how loud it is. I understand that this is illegal in some parts but In my area it wont be a problem. My game plan is to go straight pipe then possibly purchase a different performance exhaust somewhere down the road.

thanks. and if your going to gripe about straight pipes being dumb just keep it to yourself, unless you have heard it yourself and think it is just too annoyingly loud

I got LT headers w/high flow cats and rear mufflers removed. Still has the resonators on. It is extremely loud. You can compare it to a Harley motorcycle with straight pipes but smoother. It can be heard from at least a mile away if I punch it. Normal driving it's not too loud and not obnoxious. Half throttle it sounds amazing but atracts a lot of attention Full throttle it is ridiculously loud Gotta check surroundings before I punch it. Here is my video from a cold start to give you an idea. You can also see my other videos from the track and you can hear it. If I had to do it again, I'd do it again. I've only got $150 invested in the exhaust including tips plus the headers. After the cam it might get louder And for you DRONE crybabies there is very little drone at highway speeds

I have the muffler delete and its not to loud. It sounds like it should from the factory. People that complain aout drone, are mainly just complaining aout exhaust noise. They want it to be loud outside the car but not e able to hear anything inside. To hell with that, if I do exhaust work, I want to be ale to hear it!

My thoughts exactly, with the muffler delete the car sounds the way it should have from the factory. At idle its slightly louder than stock, the car actually has a nice little lope to it that you can't hear with the mufflers on, at half throttle, well, the sound is just AWESOME! Exactly how a muscle car should sound. At WOT, it just SCREAMS(reminds me of a race car), you've got to be careful of your surroundings when you open it up..... (if you get my drift, lol).

There are a LOT of threads about the muffler delete on here(search: muffler delete), many with videos. However, to me NONE of the vids actually give you a good idea of how it really sounds. Until I heard one in person, I wasn't too sure about doing it, but after I heard another member's at a meet, well, in about two weeks I had mine done.

Had straight pipes on my GTO. AR Headers, Flowmaster Super 40's, No cats, No res. The drone was horrible. But it sounded sweet!

I've driven a LS1 with nothing but headers, x pipe, and 3" pipes out to the back.

It is extremely loud... and it sounds like shit.

If you are into loud for the sake of loud you will love it, but be aware that you will annoy every single person you are near. Nobody will think you have an awesome car.
