L99 CAM Installation

What is the price range of having a cam installed and tuned? and would you recommend having the internals done also?

Thanks

I am getting an L99 to LS3 conversion with new cam, lifters, push-rods, valley trays and timing parts. I not only wanted to get rid of the AFM, but the lifters, too. Also, dual-springs are recommended for a higher lift cam. This is the most expensive route, though.

It should run you about 1200-$1400.00 in labor. I went with a VVT cam and DOD delete. Which replaces the AFM lifters, but is not a complete L99 to LS3 swap. The parts depend on what you or your tuner goes with.

It is in my signature: Vengeance Racing. They are also doing a supercharger, Pedder's suspension package and sway bars.

Texas speed is the only "shop" that I know of that's testing their own L99 grinds. The rest of the shops are using the existing L99 cams out there from Mast and Comp. If you do the LS3 swap, you have a whole host of cams to choose from. It all depends on what you want and how much $$ you want to spend. I'd suggest you talk to the shop that will be doing the install and ask them what they recommend. VVT isn't a bad thing. It's actually very good for midrange Tq, while still giving you good peak HP. It's just the degree of VVT that's used in the OEM setup that limits you so much.

You really don't want to tune it away, in the OEM setup. Think about it. Your cam can adjust A LOT, during all situations, giving you optimal tq and HP. The problem lies in the fact that you can't put a decent sized cam in and still be able to adjust like OEM. It will cause clearance problems and you'll be adjusting into the piston. The newer L99 cams lessen the degree in which it can adjust to keep this from happening. The trick is to balance the size of the cam with the ability to adjust without hitting the piston.
