2011 tune

I have a stock (other than CAI) 2011ss with auto. I am new to the forums and had a question. What tune or tuner would you recomend. I want a to do some mods but that would be later on, but would like to get the most i could out of the l99 till then. Also will it void my warranty? thanks

You're going to get a mixed bag of information on whether a tune will void your warranty. The honest answer is this...IF you tune your car and IF you have a powertrain failure...you need to count on your powertrain warranty (not your entire car warranty) being null and void. That's the way GM has stated it is. Can you "get lucky" and not get caught with a tune? Sure. Will someone chime in that they have a "super duper invisibility" tune that can't be detected if you pull it off the ECM before you take it in? Yep...you bet they will. If you knew that someone had found a weakness in your programming software...how long would it take you to install a patch to fix it?

The truth is that you need to go into any modification undertaking with the realization that if you take anything outside of the manufacturer's specifications...then the potential damage is on you. If you paint stripes on your car, the paint warranty would be gone. If you add leather seats to your fabric interior car...you seat warranty would be gone. Same goes for modifying powertrain parts.

I'm sure there will also be the "well, Magnuson-Moss says this" crowd chiming in. Let's be honest there...M-M is a wonderful piece of paper...but do you have the money to hire lawyers and spend time in court IF a manufacturer declines to do warranty work? That's what will happen...there isn't a group of M-M lawyers just sitting in some room ready to jump to the defense of a person that has purchased aftermarket parts.

Just go into modifying your car with the outlook that you are responsible for the powertrain once you start changing it...and you won't be disappointed in the outcomes. You might get lucky enough to get something covered under warranty, you might not.
