Sound Deaden or Not?

I plan to put 1 JL 12W7 in the trunk, is it going to sound bad if I do not use sound deadener? Is it worth paying 100.00 for? Thanks everybody!

I applied sound deadener to the trunk area using FatMat Trunk Kit ($50) and I'm very happy with the results. I am not an audiophile and rarely turn music on but it noticeably reduced the drone from the exhaust and road noise coming up through the rear of the car.

Took about 2hrs to install and there was a faint butyl-like smell in the trunk for the first 48hrs but went away after that, even on hot sunny days.

Please for the love of all that's good deaden your sound!
Its amazing to see people roll by with their bass booming and they are COMPLETELY oblivious to the disgusting rattling their trunk leaves behind them. They think they are tunring heads with the cool sound but people are just concerned that their car is going to fall apart.

In my last car I used dynamat and some weather sealing foam tape to line the edges of the trunk. Dynamat on the rear liscense plate is a must. In my G6 i noticed if I drove with the back seat down (so you can see into the trunk from inside the car) the sound was deadened even more because the vibrations had more surfaces to hit and was not just limited to the trunk. Turning the box into the car was bad because the windshield and mirrors all rattled which was weird and scary.

Sounds great guys, It is official I will use the sound deadner. I just hope the trunk is enough I don't want to get into having to pull door panels and seats out.

Keep the rear seat up and you should be fine. Drop the seat and your roof will start flexing. (depending on the power your running)

Where in Indy are you? I just installed a 12W7 in my trunk w/a 1000/1. I used Stinger RoadKill to line the trunk area successfully. There is little to know vibration and the depth of sound is incredible. Definitely go with a sound deadener with this strong of a sub.

I would love to see your setup. I'm installing an audio battery + isolator as well. I'm running into some issues with fabricating the stanchions I need to put the battery in the spare tire well. REALLY snug fit, but I have faith it can be done. When successful, I will post pics.

Are you using factory head unit? Do you have BA or non-BA Camaro? How are you feeding signal to your amp? I am using a ******** stealth enclosure with the T harness. This is an awesome way to go plus it's easy to work on for making changes.

I have the full trunk and doors as well. I replaced my front speakers though, so it made sense to do that.
The trunk is a must though. You should do the trunk lid as well (under that piece of carpet that's there)
