LFX cam

Ok so I'm looking into maybe getting a cam in the future. I have a few questions though. What are some good cam "kits" as I guess they would be called, would be good kits for the maximal amount of WHP but retaining my car comfortably in the DD realm. Then what are the most cost effective kits with a reputable company backing them? Also would installing a can void my PT warranty? With a cam require a tune? I am assuming it would. Do tunes void warranties? Sorry for all the questions. If you need any other info let me know.

There is only one company that is currently offering camS for the LFX engine, MACE Engineering in Australia. You have to replace 4 cams, not just one, it is relatively expensive. You will need a tune. Your PT warranty will most likely be void.

:yikes:Dang 40 rwhp for $1,200. That's really expensive in my mind.

You are right, it is expensive, but its 4x the cams as say the V8 engine.

That said, I'm fairly certain a member here that is doing cams on his LFX says he got the cams from MACE for half of that....but that could be because technically they are still finalizing development and tuning on the cams and maybe its a temporary deal? I don't know.

So while it looks promising for the LFX, and it seems they will work, we are still waiting to see things tuning options and results, and also we have yet to see exactly how much power they can make.

Interested in seeing what comes out of this

Interesting. Isn't there another can coming out for the lfx? I think they posted a thread on this site. How much did that kit cost.

LMR is currently doing R&D on LFX cams/heads... What comes of it is yet to be determined. No prices yet, and I imagine it's going to take a while.

Time is not an issue I'm 18 and it will take me awhile to save up while paying my car payment and gas! :sad0147:

Also how much do you think this kit would run? And someone like myself I have I would say a decent understanding of motors/engines and my future father-in-law has all of the necessary tools to put the cams in for sure but all of his experience is with carbureted engines. Would we be able to do this or is this simply over my head.

Jason@JacFab 10-27-2013 12:38 AM

Don't know how much it would run, I'm sure it won't be cheap as it's probably still 4 cams to be changed.

This is pretty vague, but to give you an idea of what would need to be done, check out this post: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=314677 (camshaft removal in post #6)

Gosh I'm assuming with changing FOUR cams it would be expensive to have someone else do it...

Gas ???? I have a 1LS and since our gears ratio is different I would think that you would be saving tons of money on Gas. I barely get 16mpg cause that is mixed with city and a little bit of highway. That is with me not over revving the engine and not having a lead foot.

With how expensive the kits are because you're changing 4 cams, it honestly doesn't sound like it's worth it at all to do cams on the LFX for minimal gain. That's why there's not a lot of options available out in the market right now ... who wants to drop $1,200 for 40rwhp?

....... Then again, plenty of people on this site love to blow thousands of dollars for other overpriced BS that probably only gains them 10-15rwhp (many of the exhaust kits for the V6 crowd comes to mind) so I guess $1,200 for 40rwhp isn't that bad.

Only the 2LS has different gearing.

This is actually a huge bang for the buck. Headers for the LLT (yes I know LFX can't do headers, it's an example) are about 700 and u get 15 hp. People are paying 6000 for 80 hp when they do a supercharger. At 1200 for 40 hp you'd be way ahead in the power/price ratio over these other mods. Hell even a CAI is 400 bucks for an 8hp gain?

Agreed, 1200 is not terrible. But labor if not done myself would push you on the outer limits of the price/power echelon, or it would seem that way atleast.
