Terrible MPG after Airaid installation??
So I noticed my MPG is terrible right now, no idea why. I just installed the Airaid system Monday, after I got it installed I drove it like I stole it for a day so the computer would reprogram to "racier" driving style (not sure if it really does this but that's what I've heard ). Anyways I reset my MPG earlier today and it was calculating around 9-11 mpg.... I'll give it a little more time because all I did today was a bunch of stop and go city driving and going through a parkage garage (only about 5-10 miles total today). However this is pretty much the same driving I always do and I was averaging around 15/16 mpg (I have a lead foot I know). Anyways, does anyone have any ideas??
P.S. when I was installing the CAI, there was a VERY small amount of gas on the radiator hose, I couldn't find a leak anywhere so I have no idea what it's from. I noticed it after the intake was off of the engine.

I would reset the MPG computer and go for a 30 min drive on the expressway and see what readings you get. I've noticed what really kills the average in the city is when your stoped for 3-5 minutes in traffic, that average comes down like a ton of bricks.

I have the airraid CAI installed on my V6 and have not noticed any change in mileage. Some people say that intakes will give you a mpg boost but mine has not gone up or down. Definitely notice the increased power though.

Mine has an average loss around 2 MPG in town since I installed it 2 months ago. More air + more fuel = more power = lower mileage.

I increased about 1 mpg overall since my install. Getting 20 mpg in HEAVY city traffic, got 26 mpg on 200 mile freeway trip last weekend.

The check engine light will come on if something is wrong. Short of that happening, your mileage sucked because you travelled fewer miles per gallons burned. Sorry, feeling sarcastic today.
I doubt anything is wrong. Generally after any mod, the right foot gets heavier and the mpgs go down. |

Gains or losses in MPG will always depend on driving styles and driving conditions. A High flowing less restrictive air filter does not reduce mileage on its own, it usually has to do with having a heavy foot. Any vehicle that you “Drive like you stole it” will get worse gas mileage, stock or modified. |
