Cam question

Cam went on yesterday. Vale springs were more work than I expected.

I can't get to my buddies house for tuning for a couple of days. How hard can I drive it in the meantime?

Thanks to Adam at ADM performance for the parts.

i would take it easy. you still have to break the cam in. give it a couple 100 miles before you hit it hard.

Will the cars computer keep safe parameters with the new cam all by itself?

Thanks

2000 RPM for 20min as general rule also taking it easy for a few 100 is not bad at all.. Check with your installer they may have done this already..

I am my installer. I followed the rule.
I'm asking about running the car without tuning.
Thanks

It really depends on how much bigger than stock you went with the cam. If the car starts and idles by itself then you can probably get away with driving it very soft for a short distance. The factory computer will try to keep it running but if it can't it will probably go into "limp" mode which means it will pretty much turn off your throttle motor and only give you about 10% of you normal throttle. So the car may not be able to go over 15-20 mph. If your tuner only lives a few blocks away you can probably get away with it but if he's far it could leave you stranded. Again this is with a big cam. If you got a small cam like a stage 1 you should be okay driving it till it's tuned. You should also call your supplier where you got the cam and they should know for sure if it's safe to drive it

Personally, I would drive it as little as possible until the tune is done. I would drive it easy if I HAD to drive it.

If the car will idle it's probably OK to drive as long as you stay in closed-loop - below 80% TPS. It will be too lean at full throttle in PE mode and could hurt the motor.

It should be fine.. most actually run richer with a cam on top end.. These new computer demand a ratio and that will pretty much stay on par.

as for breaking in anything, only the springs need the warm up and cool down a few times, the cam and lifters nowadays no need... roller..
