Tap shift question. Yes, I read the manual
When I am stopped at a light and shift into M, it goes into M2. If I try to go down to M1, it says "Shift denied". Anyone know why?

i have no clue. when i am stopped at a light, shift into M and i tap it into M1 no problem.
i've only gotten the "Shift Denied" message while messing around with the shifters and trying to shift into too high of a gear for the slow speed i'm traveling at. |

I have used several times and worked fine for me going to M1?? Sry no help :( but at least you can say that its supposed to work. It can also be a PIA to "tap" up when making a large turn.

+1 - when you shift from D to M the DIC will display "S", it will only begin to show M1, M2, etc when you tapshift - if at a stop light if you tap shift right button it will upshift to M2 as under "S" it was already at M1.

Does yours drop down into first ??I always have to tap down into first at a stop..Don't really use very much though but mine does not automaticly go into first by it's self..

You have an SS, the SS will only go down to 2nd when stopped if I remember correctly from the user guide. I could be wrong though I have an LT...

OP-I am a dyslexic left handed moron
Only explanatiomn. After reading the above comments I went for a short cruise and everything works as it should. I must have hit the upshift (right) at the light and the car didn't want me starting off in M3 so it said, "no way stupid". When I used the downshift, left, it went to M1, which by the way, is a fun gear to start off in. Thanks for putting up with a newbie owner.

Mine does drop to M1 automatically when stopped after its been in M-mode (shift from D to S, then tap-shift to engage M-mode). I have a 2LT A6

You're dead on. Will only go to 2nd at stops. BUT you should be able to bump it down to first if yo want. Are you sure you're hitting the correct paddle?
