Besides; this is a temporary reduction. There's every likelihood in the world that it gets ramped back up again in the second half of the year.
I hope your right, because after I get the camaro I hope to purchase a pontiac just like this, brand new!

“Considering the North American market has experienced the weakest new vehicle sales since World War II, we are very satisfied with sales of the Pontiac G8,” said Pontiac spokesman Jim Hopson.

Wow, 97%? Wow. Well, I have had mine since March and have only seen 6 or 7 on the road. Also we have a group of G8's here in Jax. (2 liquid red, 1 white hot, and 2 panther black). These are great cars, that sux about production if it is true. :(

I wanted to get a G8 GT, then they gave Camaro a GO for production!

I think I've seen a G8 on the road (other than my cousin's), it wasn't a grand prix or bonneville and was too big for a G6.

The G8 was never intended to sell hundreds of thousands of units a year. It was supposed to be a low volume rebadge of a popular Aussie car. Still, sales would have been much better if it weren't for bad timing.

The G8 has sold over 16,000 units in 9.5 months. The G8 in its first full year will easily surpass the total sale of GTOs during the GTO's best year (in its 3 year cycle).

In this economy, that is saying something.

Here's a specific month-by-month break down of G8 sales. Remember, GM projected sales of 20,000 to 30,000 G8s over a one year period (this was before the recession and the high gas prices upset everything).

March 777
April 2126
May 1831
June 1536
July 1472
August 1915
September 1651
October 1082
November 1133
December 1479
January 1331

That's 16,333 in 9.5 months

Of course, the Camaro may match these numbers in only TWO months! The point, however, is that Americans still love powerful, RWD cars. They WILL buy them.

I wouldn't read too much into this. Production on everything is getting cut back hard these days. The 3.6L DI would go a long ways towards getting people to buy though. I honestly can't understand why it didn't offer that from the start.
