Concerns over Road Noise

Wanted to inquire as to issues with wind "whistling" noise when the top is up. I have owned one previous convertible: A 2003 Mercedes 430 CLK. When driving that vehicle, I never heard any wind "whistling" when the top was up.

With my new camaro (700 miles as of today), I have experienced a "whistling" noise at speeds greater than 50 MPH that appears to be at the junction of the soft top and the front window panel on both the driver's and passenger's side. The noise was significantly worse when driving into a cross-wind. Nothing I have attempted so far has improved this mild irritation.

Have any others experienced this issue?

No whistling noise for me. This is my first convertible and it seems like I hear slightly more road noise coming from the area of the rear windows.

I'm coming off 2 Solara Verts and still have a Miata. The Camaro is much quieter than the Miata and as quiet as the Solaras, which were minimal. It will never be as quiet as a hardtop because of the nature of the "Beast", but even in a Mercedes ragtop (not counting hardtop convertibles) you will get a little noise.

Do you mean road noise or wind noise?

I hear a bit of road noise coming from the trunk area when diving with the top up. This is pretty normal since the trunk isn't insulated very well and its basically upturn to the passenger compartment with the top up.

No whistling for me up to 55 on back roads. Road noise, yes, its a little more noticeable than in a hardtop but I had a Jeep so this thing is like a vault compared to that.

Mid 80's mph with top down and noise was minimal, though maybe my extended smile pushed my ear canals closed...

Loosely on the wind noise topic (sorta) has anyone tried those wind screens yet? Given the pain in the butt of the tonneau cover, I have my doubts about the wind screen staying put or being effective.

Had one on my last Solara. Worked pretty good, stayed put as it is mesh and the wind passes through it. The wind that bothers you is not from the front, but what blows back out of the back seat, that is why they have a screen that hooks to the top of the back seat. Mine was hinged so it would fold down for visability when the top was up.

I find that the Camaro has much less "turbulance", so I may not even bother.

My posting my be a bit misleading....the typical road noise of a convertible is present..and was expected. In fact, the road noise is a bit less than what I remember from my CLK. My inquiry is regarding a consistant "whistling" noise heard only at speeds greater than 50 mph with the top up. I appears to be coming specifically from the area of the junction of the convertible top and the front window panel.

Trying to decide if I should have the dealership take a look at this irritation, or just accept that this may be a small design flaw.

Sounds like others don't have this issue.

Thanks,

Brian

No whistling noise in ours. Just normal road noise that you would expect in a convertible.

No whistling, one of the quietest verts I have owned! I would bring it in to check the seals around the top.

No whistling from mine....I hear a little road noise but it is much quieter that 'vert of the "old days". I've had my up to 90+ with no extra whistling.
