2010 mustang threaten the new camaro?

2010 Mustang GT with a TT V6 and design cues from the giugiaro concept all for 25K FTMFW

"I broke out in a cold sweat when I first read the headline: "2010 Ford Mustang - Are you ready for a twin-turbo V-6". Could it be? Was Ford looking to drop our muscular V8 for a turbo V6? My heart jumped to my throat. Visions of the Mustang II (no offense guys), gas shortages of the 70's, and low power V6 engines pierced through my mind...

Turns out I jumped to conclusions a little too quickly. According to a recent article in Motor Trend Magazine Ford is looking to add a twin turbo Ecoboost V6 engine to the Mustang lineup for 2010 in an attempt to meet the 35mpg CAFE standards by 2020. The Ecoboost V6 is said to be capable of nearly 415 horsepower with the torque of a V8. However they aren't dropping the V8. Instead their plans are to produce three Mustang models which include the naturally aspirated 4.0L V6, the twin turbo Ecoboost V6, and possibly a 5.0L V8. Word is that the Ecoboost and V8 models would be very close in cost so buyers in that price range would get to decide which they prefer. The lifespan of the V8 could depend on that decision.

The 5.0L V8 would in essence be an updated version of what is run in the current Mustang GT. A Ford engineer told Motortrend that the work done in creating the slightly more powerful V8 in the 2008 Bullit Mustang "has a future". It's reasonable to expect 325-350 horsepower from the new powerplant says the article. Another surprising revelation is the possibility of the new 5.0L showing itself early in a limited edition Mustang, possibly a modern version of the beloved Boss 302.

Motortrend went even further in predicting that the Shelby GT500 wouldn't die after two years as Ford initially intended. Strong demand could keep the current model on the production line for 2009 with an updated version in store for 2010. Although they're still testing different powertrain configurations the rumor is that Ford is clearly looking at using a supercharged 5.0L V8 with the (540hp) 5.4L of the GT500KR being standard for the short term.

Originally we had heard that Ford would be unveiling a slightly changed Mustang for 2009, with big changes coming in 2010-2012. However competition from other manufacturers has changed those plans. Now it looks as if Ford will run an abbreviated 2009 model run with those cars being identical to the current lineup. Then in spring of that year Ford would roll out the 2010 models. "

I'm not sure about a threat but then again the mod-ability of turbo cars is sometimes crazy. Could the camaro have some severe competition? What do yall think?

Ford has always been a step behind GM in the power department.
No real suprise the Mustang will get a refresh around the time Camaros hit showrooms - time will tell

That front windshield is WAY to big.. It also looks too plain somehow. The front grill looks decent however. I don't think Ford did a good job on this honestly.. lol

That "concept" has nothing to do with Ford. I've seen it (Goodwood last year) and it was a design study... it won't look like that.

In defense of my Mustang family, that's the truth ^

The Giugaro Mustang is very sharp...I love the inverted rake of the front end, the big rear haunches, and the fastback. The rear lights and much of the rear end is way too Euro and not befitting for a muscle car, but much of the rest of it is fine. Ford would do well to give the refresh a lot of the same styling elements.

If ford is really making a TT v6 around $25K we all should be worried about this. Remember guys the high performs v6 camaro is going to be around the same price rage as this TT v6 mustang. We need the V6 Camaro to sell will so the Camaro don't die off again. What sounds better for an 18 year old kid a direct injection 300hp v6 camaro or twin turbo charge 300hp v6 mustang. Maybe svt going to have some 1-3 stages like the srt4 guys.
