What Kind of AfterMarket Speakers are you Running?

I'm about redo the interior in my car, so while the door panels are off I was thinking of replacing the BA stock speakers. I have about a $500 budget was curious what speakers, tweeters, etc ur running?

I have 2 12" Comp Kicker Subs and Amp. Also running the stock BA amp as well, but should I replace that too?

Thanks.

For $500, you'd be way better off buying a nice Alpine PDX amplifier to power your stock fronts.

On the other hand, if you're set on replacing the front speakers, check out the Focal Flax series (PS 165 F or PS 165 FX) or Hertz Hi-Energy (HSK 165 or HSK 165 XL). Either of those are excellent component sets.

Night and day, yes. The stock amp is terribly underpowered and actually applies as pre-defined EQ to the stock speakers. The first thing I did was replace the stock amp with an old Alpine Class A/B amp and it was a huge improvement.

The stock speakers really are not that bad. Of course there is a lot better out there, but the biggest downfall of the stock speakers is that stock Boston amp. If you could spring for a JL Audio XD 600/6, you would really be shocked at how good the stock speakers are when they have a proper amp and the ability to fine-tune 6 of the 7 stock speakers.

The rear speakers are fundamentally identical to the fronts, with a small exception. The rear speakers are bi-amplified, whereas the fronts (mid and tweeter) share a channel. So the stock amp has 7 channels:
1. Front Right (mid+tweeter)
2. Front Center
3. Front Left (mid+tweeter)
4. Rear Right Woofer
5. Rear Right Tweeter
6. Rear Left Woofer
7. Rear Left Tweeter

It's not really necessary to go with a 6-channel amp like the XD600/6, but it is my opinion the ultimate amp to retain the factory speakers and use them to their fullest. It also retains the most flexibility should you decide to replace the factory speakers in the future.

I'm more than happy to help you map out the entire thing. I have made diagrams for forum members in the past. Here is a link to my photobucket that has the factory diagrams (along with sub thump dot com FARK harness wiring). If I can find the XD600/6 specific diagram I made, I'll upload that as well.

I added the XD600/6 diagram I made to my photobucket.

Hope that helps.

Stock speakers are terrible. I went with JL Audio C5, with a sundown amp to power them. Throw out the junk 6x9s while you are at it. Don't forget to put a ton of sound deadener in the doors, it makes a big difference once all the holes are filled behind the trim panel.

Replacing the amp will probably solve your problems, as the difference would be huge. I also recommend getting new speakers while you're at it, but the amp replacement would be most important.

I put JL C5 component speakers paired with a JL 300/4v2 amp and it's night and day different. I also put a JL 10w7 with a JL 500/1v2 for crazy bass.

I would highly recommend listening to them at a local shop first.

Two entry level series would be the JL-C2's and the RF-P1's. The C2's run ~$150/pr and I believe the P1's are about half of that, both would keep you under $500 for 2 pair (front + rears). If your budget was in fact $500 for the front only, then both the Focal Flax and JL-C5 series are worth listening to as previously mentioned. I would suggest the Infinity Kappa, but I believe these went internet only as they are no longer available retail.

I did hertz hsk 165 in front and ESk 690 in rear. But as said if you havnt upgraded the amp it's not worth getting them. Better off with BA speakers and new amp

Also running jl 900/5 with a jl 12w6v3
