REALLY BAD MILEAGE....
I realized that It's no Prius, but I'm not even gettin 250 miles out of one tank. ALL highway. I filled it up, took it to Bakersfield and back, (110 miles each way) going 75mph the whole way, and had to refill when I got back into town. That tallies up to 11mpg!!! WTF? The 2002 Camaro SS A4 is rated at 27 mpg, and I've heard people say that they get better than that sometimes... It's not like I was carrying two tons of mortar or anything, just me and the lady. I even checked the tire pressure. Anything you guys can tell me would be appreciated

No I still get around 23-27 in 98Z28 M6, she has 245,000+ that would be driving to work abount 60% hiway and 40% city, at aboutn 70mph on the hiways.
You sure you math is correct?

Dudes... Filled her up. Left. Came back empty. 110miles x2 = 220m. 220m/19gallons = 11.57
No leaks of any kind, parking space is dry as a bone... I have no clue!!! I know she does seem to be geared differently than I expected, at 80mph she sits at about 2600rpms, which seems high, considering my LT1 Z28 stayed just barely below 2000rpms at 80mph... I dunno. Only had her since April, haven't really checked on the mileage until now, when It seemed she was doing really bad...

I agree w/Chrisrp, I've got cam/injectors/headers/tune (all done by 2Tightwads) and still knock down 25-28 highway and 11s in the 1/4 with 133K miles. Sounds like you need a tune/tune-up! Good luck,

The Camaro only has a 16 gallon tank not a 19 and depending on how accurate your gauge is and when you filled it up there may have been 3-4 gallons still in the tank when you filled it up. Even with taking these things into consideration, you are still getting less then 20 mph highway.

You have to know exactly how many miles you drove from the time you first filled up to the second time you fill up ,then exactly how many gallons you put back in the second time. That is how many gallons the trip took. Then Miles divided by gallons to get the correct miles/gallon. Thease cars only held 16 gallons of fuel so If it ran out of gas right at the pump it still would have gotten at least 13.75 miles/gallon. It most likely had 3 or 4 gallons left which would be it got at least around 18.
I don't think going 75mph helped your cause. |

Speaking of which, what is the optimum speed for efficency on these cars?
this used to be 55. These cars had a 16 gallon tank (4th Gen?), all your numbers sound high, the most I could pull on mine on the highway was high 23's low 24's on trips averaging around the 60-65mph mark. Mines been grounded due to county emmissions testing for a few years, been a while since I've been on a trip with it. |

All I know is that my '96 Z28 GOT about 26/27 mpgs highway, and this one is rated for higher than that car was, which makes me

I had an issue with some gas leaking from the fuel probe in the tank. I didnt even notice it until I took it up to the dealer for something else unrelated, and he filled it up and told me it was leaking on the ground. I thought I had smelled gas when it was in the garage but I suppose it evaporated before I saw it. I dont know if this is your issue, but it wouldnt hurt to have it checked out.

Carb cleaner not good for maf. I would see if it's throwing any codes. I could be your cat starting to plug.

I had a bad gas cap on my 94 Camaro and it would leak fuel after fill ups plus made the car hard to start because the fuel system was bleeding off pressure. I drove an LS1 99 State Police car and routinely got 22 MPG on patrol and 25 to 28 MPG traveling for training. This car was loaded to the gills with equipment and radios which accounted to several hundred pounds. My 94 Camaro will not suck the last couple of gallons of gas out of the tank. I have to find a fuel stop before 300 miles or I run the risk of walking. I'm curious if the O2 sensor could be bad causing your car to run rich hurting your fuel mileage.

No codes yet, so I doubt the oil went any further than the MAF. Wasn't aware of cleaner specifically for MAF, will def go with that
