Thanks for the great advice. Fortunately I found this when the car was under 100 miles. I am now around 600. I have been careful to accelerate hard only from rolling starts and after the car is sufficiently warmed up, although I couldn't resist accelerating from a dead stop this morning. This ahole in a Mercedes cut me off on the freeway offramp. I pulled next to him at the light at the entrance to the freeway with the car well warmed up. Green light - punched it - chirp (1st gear) - chirp (2nd gear) and off I went. L99 in case you are wondering.

Man did it feel good. First time I've heard the tires break loose. Sounds like the motor is coming along well.

Darin i am in NY and expect my car 1st week of Nov, does the cold weather affect break in or just warm it up good before you pound on it?

Darin, thanks for all the great input. I have a couple quick questions for you. You have said the break in period is within the first 300 miles correct? I will be receiving my car early November and was wondering how long does this break-in need to take place over? i was also wondering if i could take a weekend off and break it in over 2 days or 300 miles? i ordered the ls3 and just wanted to clarify that once you hit your desired speed with the 6spd you drop it into neutral and coast to stop or use the brakes if need be? Also do you think there is a certain number of loaded runs you should take or is it just a mileage thing? thanks for the input on these questions.

Darin,

I followed your prodcedure the best i could, i know you had mentioned that you should not down shift during the break in procedure. (Changed the oil at 1500) The car now has about 2100 miles is it ok to down shift for use when slowing the car down?

Thanks,

People, it's not rocket science!! Load the engine with quick acceleration runs to whatever speed you're comfortable a bunch of times. Let it cool and repeat. Seriously it's that easy. At about 500 or so miles, change the oil and you're good to go. Do what you please with your broken in car

Thanks,
I am sure this is buried somewhere in my many posts but here it goes,

After break in you can do anything you want. Downshifting into corners is not only fun, its the proper way to approach the apex and have power coming out. I dont shift the living hell out of mine. Your done, go have fun!

Thanks,
Clutch
To my knowledge this can not be done. Yet.

Vector is making the claim that you can just go back to the original factory tune before you go in for service. That makes sense as long as they can't see that it was ever changed to begin with, correct? This is a question that I think we will be seeing an answer to soon......many people are using those tunes right now.

You can go back to the factory tune before taking your car to the dealer but that does not mean you will get away with it. Techs are now mandated to look for “creative tuning" anytime they warranty the drive train. They are supposed to send in the codes to GM for verification. They may send the codes to Chevy for verification then agian they may not. You never know. If you got a lazy tech that just wants to get his strait time and make some money he might just skip a few steps. Its a roll of the dice and I dont have the odds. I personally told the tech that I had flashed the car and screwed things up and also admitted that my drive train warranty was voided in order to save him time and aggravation. Nothing pisses off a mechanic off more than having to spend another hour or two finding out that he just dick'ed over by the customer. By the way, the mechanic may not get paid for the extra hour it takes to find that the customer dick'ed him over which is the very reason they get pissed off.

If you tune your car and things happen you should accept the risk. Not GM. I am not saying that everything is off limits to Warranty. If the front head lamp goes out or your trunk hinge fails that has nothing to do with the drive train and GM techs won’t care if you flashed it. I think the choices are clear. Flash it and except that something may go wrong and that you will pay for it or don’t flash it and keep your warranty in tact.

Darin,

I read earlier in this thread that you did not chage the oil that came in your car to a "break- in" type oil. I will be getting my camaro in a few weeks and was thinking about changing the oil as soon as I drive off the lot to a " Break in" oil, and wanted your opinion. If, you think I should, what type would you recommend?

I have covered this a couple time in previous posts. My opinion is, dont worry about it.

I am so glad to see that someone touched on this. Getting the rings to seal up with proper break in is worth a lot. I have seen so many tuner shops on new built engine just start it up and let it idle for 30 min.
