Well, here's my opinion on it. I hate the idea of having these gauges so low, for two reasons. First, be cause I know they will collect tons of dirt/dust and be hard to clean. But also because these gauges will not be ANYWHERE near the driver's line of sight. This is why I think this gauge location will not pass federal law regulations. The only way they would work as intended (to alert the driver in the event of a problem) is to draw enough attention from the driver. The only way I see this happening is by changing the background color like Balonywolf suggests. There's really no other way to get the driver's attention so far away from where they are usually looking (at the road).
Only problem I see is, if the background goes red as a warning, then what happens if we do get customizable colors (a la Mustang) and red is one of the color choices? It would have to change to another color to be noticeable, and that may require a bit too much R&D and money for GM to wanna spend on this. |

The one way I see to solve this is to put "idiot" lights along either the top or bottom of where the speedometer or tac is. You see a warning light, then you glance down at the actual guages. This way you have the best of both worlds. How would that sound?

Check out some of the early 2000's Saturn's, They came with a tac, speedo, gas, and idiot light.. and that was it. While other manufacturers have overloaded gauges.

I used to be Dragoneye...

Or a friendly computer woman's voice. saying,
"Warning, oil pressure dropping - please check your engine. Have a nice day!" They are "low", but the Saturn Ion had/has(?) all of the guages over to the side...not directly in the line of sight. On the Camaro. as these aren't 'vital' gauges, so to speak, I think they can pass fed. regs. Personally, I think they are more than fiunctional. I mean, should we put the radio up in the main gauges because it's not in the dirvers line of sight? :p Oh wait...we did. |

Sigh.. not the badge pissing contest again.. It hasn't been announced and until it is you are BOTH just guessing. Give it up.
.. Back on topic.. No the HUD will probably not be standard, Chances are good it will be an option in a bundle, but not guaranteed to be an option until specs are released.
