Maintenance reference

Are you sure about 9 Qts?
The LS1 only used 6 for street use and almost 7 quarts for Road Racing... |

Thats what the spec sheet says... although the vette guys are hitting the full mark at 6 quarts... as soon as its official (one way or another) I will change it accordingly...

On the maintenance issue. I was told by a former GM mechanic that when you are breaking in the motor on a new car. Use regular engine oil for the first 500 miles then switch to synthetic. Reason being that if you use regular oil it causes the pistons to rub the inside walls and knock off the excess metal partials and smooth out the area to make the pistons move smother when you switch over to synthetic. Also place an oil filter magnet in the oil filter that will collect the metal partials that the pistons will knock off. Just remember to tell the maintenance personnel to NOT throw the magnet away when you do your first change. All you do is rinse off the magnet and place it back in the oil filter.

i havent looked at too many spec sheets or computer drawings of the camaros systems.
but how much of this car can we NOT work on, at all. i do a lot of my own maintenance. weve never taken a vehicle in for an oil change or stuff like that. so what can i do with the camaro, or not do? thanks.

The best thing I can say is to ask you local Chevrolet dealer. They would know better than any one.

The Camaro's LS3 takes more oil due primarily to a larger oil pan and oil cooler.
