The rumors are that there will be both versions of the Gen V. OHC/DOHC, and Pushrod.
Personally - I don't care which we get...but GM has beaten everyone else up to now with 'ancient' pushrods; I don't see any reason to change. |

IS IT 2009 YET???
|
2 Years ago I'd say "SO WHAT!!!, HOW CARES ABOUT THE PRICE OF GAS!!!" Now I'll be waiting until they release the Camaro with the GEN V Motors...And I doubt I'm the only one who's willing to wait considering the sharp rise in fuel prices over the last two years...The real question is when and where will we see it level off at....becuase I won't buy until then!
Does anyone else feeling the same way? ALSO ID LOVE TO SEE GM OFFER $2.99 A GALLON OF GAS WITH THE PURCHASE OF A NEW CAMARO....IM DOWN WITH THAT!

So what do we know so far about the gen V? I think I've heard that it will be designed for direct injection, afm, and vvt. The DOHC and OHV setup is news to me. Anything else?

Actually DOHC technology is older than OHV(or better to say cam in block with ohv) so i don't see how ohv is more ancient than dohc .Both technology are very old.
But to return on topic. I remember that when Ultra v8 was cancelled there was some document on net how new v8 engine from GM was 6.2 l dohc engine. If i remember correct that document was written before Ultra v8 was cancelled. Some rumors suggest that when new cadillac model come(sts/dts rplacement or something even more luxurious) cadillac will maybe buy engine (dohc v8) from another car manufacturer or even will order from some other firms to build engine for them (like lotus and mercury marine build it lt-5). But all this is many years away so we can't say what can happen until then. Now i don't see how gen v will be made as dohc and ohv. Heads are different..also pushrods in ohv engine goes through engine block ..and dohc engine doesn't need pushrods. Maybe block and heads will be different but GM will use same crankshaft, pistons, connecting rod etc? And story about supra v6 with 900 hp..that is tunned and veeery expensive engine and you can't compare such engine with normal engine which must last 100+ thousand miles. It's like saying- yes but there is 427 billet ohv engine with capability of 8500 rpm and power of 1200 hp + supercharger.or v6 ohv from buick with 1000+ hp or something like that. This is not engine from normal car that cost 30 000+ dollars. Back in Black
|
Actually the 2JZ 3.0 liter inline-six variants of the Supra are that good. They have been known to easily make 750hp on the stock internals. Supra motors have a rep for being nearly bulletproof. The huge power is from swapping the bolt-on components and the turbos. The engine itself handles it just fine. Shoot I'm all American, but I respect Toyotas reliability on their engines. 100K is barely broken in on a Supra.

All I know, is located right here:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1533 This was put up months and months ago. But apparently, it's still proving to be useful! And I remember hearing/reading about the OHC/DOHC thing from that UAW/GM agreement that was put online. There was mention of "OHC/DOHC" GEN V |

Gen V Engine?
Is there any speculation on when Gen V engines will be available? What are the advantages of Gen V on power/fuel economy?
