Speed limitation set 118 MPH?

I've heard a story that the LS v6 motor has a govener on it set to 118MPH. Is this true? If so, can it be changed?

Thanks to all.

Yes it's true but it's there because of the speed rating on the tires. Yes, you can have the PCM flashed to remove it. Not sure who tunes the V6 but it will void the warranty. Why do you need to go faster than 118?

Thanks for the info. Looks like I will have to hit up trifecta for a new program.

It's not that I "need" to go over 118, it's more of, "what if I WANT to.."

Get better tires. IF God forbid you get into an accident, you could get sued if it's your fault. Make sure you get the proper speed rating. It's a sue happy world.

I hear ya in the "WANT". I was just being a smartass. 118 is unacceptable!!!

I have a set of Z rated tires on there. I got a set of 20 inch SS wheels just for the purpose of "exploring" the post 100MPH world. We have a track here where I live so you can legally do such things. The tires are a safety requirement there, as you pointed out.
