Can a V6 Tune be detected?

The V8 computer has a flash counter, which is how tunes are easily detected (if the dealership checks). I remember reading the V6 does NOT have a flash counter.

So, can the V6 tune be detected if you flash it back to stock before taking it to the dealership?

the unofficial word is no they can't , but no one really knows for sure. You can purchase the tune from trifecta and load the stock tune in,

Only with a flux capacitor in the USB cable.............

I would believe, anything done to the cars computer will be visible to someone with the right know how (GM).

Bwahaha.

They say not. But if you buy the cable and tune with Vince @ Trifecta you can always flash back to stock tune.

I know we all want a "undetectable tune" but like they say, you gotta pay to play and that should be something you keep in mind when you go down that route.

Chris,

That's why I'm saying return to stock tune. If there is no hardwired counter, then the tune isn't necessarily detectable, because reloading the stock tune should erase any traces. But, that depends on the computer and the programming system. If a tune is JUST variables being loaded, then reloading the original erases all traces. But if a tune is extra commands, then traces MIGHT be left behind.

So, I'm asking in case any of our "experienced" or "employed" members know if a GM policy exists on how to check the tune or if they even bother to take a ECM snapshot like they do with the SS.

Anyone know??? Does the ECM snapshot policy apply to V6's? is there a service bulletin or policy about checking for V6 tunes????

I don't know forsure how it works, but I do know that if they had a seperate flash counter, then reloading back to stock tune would still be detectable, even if your flash back to stock completely rewrote everything.

I honestly doubt they would even check it on the V6. The percentage of V6 owners who even know what a tune is is small.

As far as I know, all tunes are detectable.

Trifecta offers a tune add-on called Ghost tune, it masks the tune to look like it's untouched. Almost undetectable unless GM knows to look for it.

You can always buy a separate ECU and apply the tune to that keeping your stock ECU untouched....

I think he was just saying the people who tend to do mods and tunes to seek out the most power tend to buy v8's for that reason. There are a few who appreciate the v6 and want to tweak it, but probably not the mainstream.

There was a thread floating around somewhere about 6 months ago, where a v6 owner had a techie for a friend working at GM and found out that they don't give a rat's ass if the V6 engine is tuned. Because they already maxed out the performance on the stock setup, they like diablo, HP tunes, SLP believe that no one is going to come out with a tune for it anyway.

In short, they don't bother checking for it.
