It is like comparing a Mustang GT to a Challenger SRT-8, does that make anysense?? NO.

Trim levels:

I think Mustang loyalist compare the SS to the GT-500 because deep down inside they know the Mustang GT is somewhat of an embarrassment.

I was thinking:

Ford: Mustang V6, Mustang GT, Mustang GT-500
Dodge: Challenger V6, Challenger R/T, Challenger SRT-8
Chevy: Camaro V6, Camaro RS, Camaro SS, (can you get the 426hp motor in the RS?)

And the GT Mustang is not an embarrassment to us Ford guys, I would say deep down inside the Camaro loyalist want to discount the GT500 as the bench mark for the Camaro as they know they would be second before the car is even released, don't worry after the fist year they will release a 550 hp version of the Camaro to go against the 540 hp GT500. All in good time.

Bad one, why? Compair the top of the line Camaro against the top of the line Mustang and let the chips fall were they may. The Chevy guys always forget the GT500 even exist. So saying that the GT500 can't be compared until the Chevy guys have the Z28 that Chevy may or may not build is a bad one.

To answer your question, The Rs package IS NOT a trim level. The RS package is basicaly an external appearence package, it adds 20 wheels, HID head lights, darker tail lights etc.. both the V6 and V8 camaro can be equipt with the RS APPEARANCE PACKAGE... the trim level of the camaro follows the Mustang and the Challenger.

Camaro V6 Base, Camaro V8 (entry V8), Camaro Z-28 (top trim)
Mustang V6 Base, Mustang GT (entry V8) Mustang Gt-500 (top trim)

Do you understand now?? compareing a Camaro SS to a GT-500 is like comparing a Mustang GT to a Challenger SRT-8!!! a total apples to oranges comparison.

So question here, for the ones that ordered a Camaro SS, what do you think the dealers will mark them over sticker?

I hate the fact they do it, but that is not to bad, 15-25K like when the GT500's came out was greed. So we are talking 40K for a SS, that is a good price for what you get.

LOL PUH-LEASE!!!!

I have no problem admiting that the 2006-2009 gt-500 will probaly be faster than the camaro SS in a straight line, But on a race track I bet the camaro will murder the GT-500. I ran a 2007 GT-500 on the track, and I was not impressed, basicaly it is good for drag raceing and not so good at anything else.

The man speaks the truth. That would be like, well, comparing the GT500 to a Corvette. We all know that never happens!

Probably be faster than the Camaro? LOL PUH-LEASE!!!! Why can't you just admit it outright instead of holding out hope that it might somehow edge the GT500 in that regard, as well.

Will there be some stock Camaro's that run as fast as the 12.8 some magazine got with a GT500 and is used as the gospel on this site as to how fast a stock GT500 can run? I have no doubt.

I'm of the opinion it's a great, reliable, daily driver, too.

who's faster?

Guess we are all gonna have to wait until they are on the streets and on the dragstrips or autocross.
