If it is in the shifter is in D it will start in first gear from a stop.
If it is in the shifter is in M (S displayed on DIC) it will start in first gear from a stop. If it is in the shifter is in M (M displayed on DIC) it will start in first gear from a stop only when you down shift to 1st, otherwise it starts in 2nd.

What kind on info you won't
Tranny in M paddle shift to first is the only way to start in first gear.If you are going to make a quater mile run start like that, but after you get rolling shift to D,and just let the trans. shift it self, using the paddle shift runnig hard the Torque Management lets it fall on it's face

If your drag racing leave it in D or use M (Sport mode -without touching the paddle shifters). You'll go slower using the paddle shifters (trust me).
There's a slight delay on the shifts when using the paddle shifters and it can be hard to get the shifts just right. The computer does a much much better job of shifting. The paddle shifters are fun to play with. You can up shift and down shift and have some fun. But the car is faster when the computer does the shifting. |

D (Drive) and S (Sport) both start off in first gear. No, you don't have to switch things around racing the 1/4 mile, just put it into drive or sport and run it.
See my 1/4 mile testing I have done so far with my L99 SS here: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26818 Now, if you are driving around in M (Manual mode) and using the buttons (paddles) on the back of the steering wheel to shift manually, and you come to a stop, the transmission will automatically downshift for you as you decel, but it will never downshift into first gear, so even once you come to a stop, you will then still be in second gear and it will remain in second, until you manually shift it. |

Do what I suggested. Just put it in D (regular drive) or M (regular sport mode) and turn off the traction control. Then just mash the gas. I wouldn't use M (manual mode using paddle shifters) when drag racing. |

Is there a consensus on which is the fastest? Seems like there are so many combinations, some say put it in D, some say M, some say hit the traction control button twice, some say hold it in for 6 seconds. I have a pea brain, I want someone to just tell me to put it in this mode and do this with the traction control button when I go to the dragstrip.
