Manual or auto?

OK guys, I need you on this. Just been in contact with a dealer over here, to place an order for a 2LT RS manual. The dealer tried to tell me that the auto option would be the best to go for. I don't agree, but would like to know from those with the 3.6 engine if the auto box lags on initial take off, and through the gears. I couldn't stand the delay on my Mustang GT auto, and swapped to a manual pretty soon. (we have no Chevvy dealers to take a test drive with here, just in case you were wondering)

You might be happier with a SS if you ar coming out of a GT. Save $1000 and buy the standard transmission! Look at the 1SS too!

Well I have the V6 and I have a lag in auto drive BUT when I drive it in sport or manual shift, no lag at all. If the V6 doesn't lag in sport or manual I'm pretty sure the V8 won't either. FYI 75% of the camaro sales have been autos 25% manual. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104403

I regret it every day that I didn't go manual.
Especially with all the mods I decided to put on my car.
the AT drains a lot of power

@ Hoss. Would love an SS, but they are priced at the equivalent of $60,000 over here :(

@ Melody. I didn't realise there were different modes on the auto box. Do you still get a nice shove in the back in sport mode?

I wondered about power draining. 312 bhp is OK if you get it all, but I'm aware that an auto can easily sap 10-15 bhp. You've validated my thoughts on getting a manual.

The manual cost (I think) $1,000 less, and has a bigger gear ratio in the back end (atleast with the SS, not 100% on the v6)

If you like to become one with the car, go with manual

LOL. Not available in right hand drive yet. Fortunately we're allowed to drive either. I've become used to left hand drive now, although sometimes it is a bit scary overtaking.
