Introducing "Klaus"....... European Market Camaro CTF unit

Nothing will ever take the place of my beloved "Thor" - (....and I'm not sure I can say why other than "Thor" 'spoke' to me, so to speak -- he had a completely different 'feeling' than "Helios" - "Apollo" -- "Thor V 2.0 -- etc)

-- I dunno - mebbe he was the symbol of rebirth......whatever, his new Owner who lives in Pennsylvania has a real treasure....)

Anywhoo........

"Klaus" is a CTF unit owned by the Performance Car Team - he's "European" meaning that he was built for markets within the European Union. There are many under-the-skin differences as well as some that aren't under the skin.....

From the outside, headlamp washers, specific side mirrors (really big!) with integral turn signals and running lights -- tow hook cutouts, and of course, a very different taillamp appearance. I know some were horrified when the pics of a yellow one appeared on the internet - but let me say that the appearance in person is much better (...isn't it always??) and I like it! (I came up behind him a week ago on an interstate - another member was driving him - and I was captivated by the difference that the taillamps and spoiler make......)

No OnStar.....

Radio is in different Hz -- and of course the Speedometer is in Kilometers --

He's an LS3 tuned for the european market (fuel) -- and of course, he's ALL CAMARO!!!

I'll only have him for a short period of time - but I'm very much looking forward to every mile!

I love those tail lights! Not much of a fan of the bigger mirrors though.

Lucky you for getting to drive that sexy beast.

While in Oshawa, I caught a glimpse of a door with euro mirrors being fitted to a Camaro on the assembly line, but sadly I missed seeing the taillamps in person. :(

Enjoy your temporary ride, and once again THANK YOU! for your part in opening the plant to the Camaro (and Firebird) community.

I think I'd like those tail lights a lot better if they didn't have the white part. Otherwise, they look kind of cool.

Bloody hell!! I'm pleased I went with a US spec car, and had minimal subtle changes done to make it legal here. Those mirrors look so out of character with rest of the car, and the rear lights at night look like a sign in an opticians window.

What are the difference in the European fuel? Also I like the spoiler, the tail lights are alright, but I still like ours better. To me though the mirrors are a deal breaker, they just seem too large, but I get that they serve a purpose and in all fairness I have not seen them in person.

Hey Fbod, you had better get to cleaning out that little forest growing in your gutters. I laugh because I spent all day cleaning the trees out from mine.

There is no difference between the molecular make up of European fuel vs. US Fuel. It's all the same hydrocarbon ranges for the most part.

The only differences are additives, which are vendor specific, and environmental contaminant regulations. And for the most part, I believe the EU specs are much much tighter than US regulations.

On topic though, I dig the tail lamps. Too bad it doesn't look like you could retrofit them into the US models.

Thanks for the explanation, so when driving it here in the states I imagine that 93 is still needed?

I saw them in person on the tour. Elton John is Elton John whether you see him in person or on the Internet. Poor, poor Europeans.

If you want to keep your warranty, yes.

However, and I will get flogged for this, modern Internal Combustion Engines have advanced so far that I honestly believe fuel octane ratings don't really hurt engines anymore.

It used to be the higher octane fuels were the cleaner and than base grades. However, with all refining industry expansions and environmental regs that have come into affect, most refiners make super premium fuels and then blend in different components to get the lower octane ratings. None of which are "dirty" they just have different hydrocarbon components in them which help produce a net lower octane rating (aka higher vapor pressures/ more lighter components in the fuel).

My car is supposed to run on medium grade gasoline and I've been putting in 87 octane since I bought it used and I've never had knocking or performance related problems with my car.

However, on a car under warranty I would follow all recommendations until the warranty expires on its own.

And don't get me started on 3000 mile oil changes.

Enjoy the new ride. But............................I'm glad I live in the USA for even more reasons now. Just not a fan of those differences.

I've been in Camaros since 1985, so I'm a big fan. But I don't like that at all. And they still won't upgrade that grille...
