Question regarding acceleration
When slowly acceleration from a stop (light, sign, etc) I notice my car seems to (not sure how to put this) want to go faster. What I mean, it’s almost like I am holding it back, like it’s asking for more RPM (if that make sense). I don’t notice any hesitation or sputter, it’s just sounds that the RPM are uneven (again not sure if this makes sense). This only happens when I start slow, and continue slowly (you cannot always take off from a dead stop like you want). If I start normally or give it a bit more gas, I do not notice this uneven RMP sound.
I’d also like to add that if I punch it from a dead stop I have no problems squealing the tires, so this makes me think the above is normal and somewhat in my head. I hope this make some sense. Anyway any thoughts? Last edited by nyrfan; 09-29-2011 at 01:01 PM. |

I believe that the device that is between your brain and the gas pedal is causing the issue you are discribing.

I do notice that it is literally harder to accelerate slowly in this car due to the massive amount of torque. You really have to feather the gas not to accelerate quickly.

First off let me preface this by saying I am not mechanically inclined and that I fully expect someone (who may or not be mechanically inclined) to reply to what I am saying by ripping me a new one and calling me a complete idiot. Paranoid? No just experienced.
In the old days before the car used a "fly-by wire" system for acceleration a cable connected the gas pedal with the carburetor and this gave you direct control over how much fuel was dumped into the barrel or barrels of the carburetor. That gave you a better feel especially during initial acceleration from a stop. Since the computer now controls that fuel flow you don't get the same feedback to the gas pedal and then into the bottom of your foot. I think what your experiencing is this "fly-by wire" effect.

The RPMs are kept a little high via the torque converter to keep you in the optimum torque band so that way, when you decide to step on it the Camaro will be ready to fly at a moment's notice. I'm assuming you have an automatic?

Maybe your brain is thinking V8, but your pedal is pushing a V6? Theres why you couldn't explain the confusion....
Not flaming the V6's.... just couldn't resist

I have a 2011 auto V8 and experience this EXACT same "issue"...thanks for bringing it up - it has kinda bothered me a bit as well - you are not imagining things
![]() Is it a huge problem? I wouldn't say so...just something a bit off...although if you get on the gas, she acts perfectly normal...

When I start to accelerate, and I hear that engine sound, it is just begging me for more throttle. I think it's an addiction.
