Chevy called me, wow

I am new to this list but I have lurked for a year or so. Yep I want a camaro, I bought a new one in 1967, screwed it up and wished I had it back So I decided to pay my dues and get a new one to take care of. I got on all the lists in town. To no real avail. The closest dealer got one, went in, told I could not drive it, could not buy it unless I was prepared to give the 10K over MSRP. I did not buy the car and felt treated like a real idiot, and I dont think I am a dork but I upset me so much that I went home, and wrote the dealer an email and wrote one to GM. The dealer sales manager called, he was nice enough but stuck to the idea that 10K over was ok. I said if you dont want to sell the car tell you get more, why not just say so and be honest. The email I sent to GM was similar that I did not appreciate the treatment I got from the dealer. I thought at least the sales manager called, but today GM called me and said, Hey we got your email and we would like to know what happened. The person on the phone acted like she cared what I thought and she told me this is not the first call she has made its all over the country. Dealers are marking the car up to un-resonable rates above MSRP. I said, if you sell the cars direct for MSRP, on line, the dealers could not do this. Its time that GM got with the real world. The dealer is a service station and in most cases people dont need a salesperson, and dont need to go through this silliness. Sure a sales person can be valuable but after 45 years of buying cars I can say that I dont remember a good sales experience with a car dealer. I have met some nice sales people, but dealers dont get it, and they think they make the rules.
Sorry for the drivel here, I just thought others might like to know that GM is making an effort to find out why people who want this car are upset, I am impressed. I will still buy a new camaro, Metalic Orange SS and I am sure when I get it I will love it, but for now the dealers can eat the cars they have or collect them like museum pieces.
To those dealers how are on this forum that do not follow this stupid process I apologize to you, I am sure not every dealer is like the ones here in Vegas, but it seems that people across the US are emailing and calling in and complaining so there quality dealers who are honest are in the very small minority.
Sorry for the wasted band width but I would like to know if anyone else has gotten the call from GM. Maybe someone on the list should compile the call list and publish it and send it to GM so they know that the message is getting out there.
Go Chevy.

You live in a city that sells potato chips for $7.00 a bag. Why are you surprised? Go outside of Vegas if you want a fair deal bro. That city is ALL about money, in case you didn't know and they WILL legally sell a Camaro $10K over MSRP. GM can't do anything about it.

I don't understand the point of this post??? You're bashing him because he made a legitimate complaint to GM about a dealer charging an exuberant amount of money?

I'm not bashing him. Why would anybody order a new car in Las Vegas where EVERYTHING is marked up ridiculously? He wouldn't have had that problem if he ordered out of county or out of state. Hence why I mentioned that a bag of potato chips costs $7.00 and that is only the tip of the crooked iceberg.

I too agree with this point. Nothing in Vegas is cheap, even necessities for living. Cost of living, just like everything else on the WC, is expensive as all hell. So, in the end..

Just go shop online, or better yet buy from Camaro Scotty, and have him dropship it to a local dealer. Also have a contract where they can only charge X amount of dollars on your terms for release of the car. Thats what I plan to do with my car if DeNooyer has a backlog of orders and can't come through for me.

Unless the pricing of all things in Vegas is consistent, I would hadly call that a deal. The minimum for a buffet is like $12.00 per person. Wasn't always like that but with the casinos doing poorly right now, prices have gone up and up and up. If you can afford to live in Vegas comfortably and pay $15K over MSRP for a Camaro, God Bless you my friend. God Bless you. Bottomline is that buying a Camaro in Vegas? Not a good idea. The scams are all over the US man, don't get me wrong, however, in Vegas, they aren't shy about it. No way!

All I'm saying that there are WAY more expensive places to live other than Las Vegas. -- San Diego, DC, Chicago, Long Beach......

I dont know the details about Chevy Franchises but many other Corporations that franchise do indeed have rules regarding the selling price ( at, under, and over msrp ).

If the Challenger can be $10K over MSRP, why couldn't the Camaro? Those rules aren't safe guarding many buyers if the ceiling is $10K or higher. If somebody DOES know the rules, I would be interested in knowing how much a dealer (not eBay sale) can mark up a vehicle. Please chime in. Thanks!

Not everyone can have a car dropped shipped to them. What about folks that plan on trading in their old car? A good percentage of the Northeast dealers are selling above MSRP and are asking large deposits. Does that mean I should have to drive 500 + miles to find a dealer that doesn't just so I can trade in an old car?

This issue comes up every time a new car that is tied to a legacy or performance comes out. Often times it ends up hurting the sales of the car for the first few months. In the case of the Challenger people were paying 20k over MSRP in some cases. Within a few months prices were below MSRP. Today you can buy Challengers all day well below MSRP. The dealers just hurt themselves because even though they make a killing in the short term they will hurt their long term sales. When the 2004 GTO first came out the greedy dealers were getting 10, 15, 20 k over MSRP and within 8 months GM had to create a huge rebate to move the cars that sat on the lot for months. In Jan 2005 I bought a GTO that sat on the lot for 6 months for 8k under MSRP after all the rebates and discounts.
