We just so happened to perform the latter this time, and we have some news. Filed September 7, 2012, General Motors, LLC filed a trademark application for the “Z28″ nameplate. It’s perfectly natural to grin.

Recalling when the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 first unveiled to the world in Chicago back in February 2011, it left many in surprise that the 580-horse super pony car didn’t bear the sacred Z28 name. At the same time, we were told that there’s still a Z28 Camaro coming, and this trademark filing makes everything all the more evident.

So, between the Chevrolet Camaro V6, SS, 1LE and ZL1, the Z28 has to squeeze in somewhere. Perhaps it will even out-muscle the ZL1. Or it may replace the SS plate with the sedan bearing the same name and arriving next year to avoid confusion. It’s all very quiet right now, and we will therefore leave the speculation up to you in the comment section below.

Where's it fit in the lineup?? Above or below the ZL1?

I'd think below but the 1LE kinda took that spot so I don't know where the thunder could be personally.

Just curious how the public receives it.....

DARN it... was just going to post this. Now the question is next August will I purchase a 1LE or will the vaunted Z28 be available... Mother of all Decisions.

I doubt it will appear on a 5th gen. Most likely just replace thee ss model for the 6th. Even the article suggests this.

i like the idea. i've grown up around z28s my whole life. mom had 3 of em, her current being a 2002 35th edition. i would love to see this in a 5th gen

As much as it pain's me to say it... I kind of feel the same way. With the 1LE running so strong at the track is there room for another track star?

It may also be that Chevy is renewing their patent on the Z28 name. It may mean nothing.
