Engine backfires after Roto-Fab CAI Install

I installed a Roto-Fab cold air intake a week ago. Now when the engine is cold and I rev the engine a little or I shift from first to second, the engine backfires really loud. Once the engine warms up everything seems to be OK. I've driven about 150 miles with the Roto-Fab intake. Is this backfire something I should be concerned with?

Sounds like your running too rich. Does it happen during low or high rpm's? Fyi you should be driving when your motor is cold.

It happens at high rpms like when shifting between gears. For example, today when I pulled out of my driveway and started down the street, it backfired when I shifted between first and second. The backfire was so loud I thought I ran over something in the road. Tonight I just started the car and gave a little tap on the gas and it backfired. It was loud enough my wife asked if I hit something with car. And see was sitting in the house watching TV.

I know the sound of decel pop. This is a loud backfire. It only happens when the engine is cold.

well if you really think it's backfiring...then a trip/tow to the dealer is in order. Though I don't see how adding a CAI that requires no tune would cause your engine to backfire. I added the same CAI and have no issues

Mine does it also, only for a few miles while warming up. I didn't think it was a big deal. If I close my wild to mild it calms it down.

That's comforting to know it's not just my car that does it. I don't have a mild to wild switch so I'm getting every decibel of the backfire.

It could be the MAF sensor is in backwards not reading the air flow properly, or there is an air leak in that system. Make sure the MAF sensor is in the correct location. For further free trouble shooting, uninstall the kit and put the stock stuff back on. This way if something happened during install you will be able to tell. Plus if it still does it, the stock stuff is back on just in time for you to take it to the dealer.

I put the one on about 3 weeks ago. I noticed immediately more decel pop, and all around growl. No true backfire.
I have not put on the big gulp scoop to accompany the CAI, and have wondered if they don't both need to be on for the performance to be where it needs to be.
I find my gas mileage to be alot lower than what other people say, so I wonder if I'm runnin rich as well.
I'm not a car mechanic, so maybe somebody who is technical-like could give some info on whether adding a little air could fix that.

Wow the same thing happened to me! I was going uphill after stopping and shifted from 1st to second and it popped good, she was walking her dog.

Anything other than a regular k&n air filter replacement requires a tune to optimize the engine function.
