My Chevy Camaro vs. Tree

I have been reading posts on Camaro5 for a very long time now. I thought I would finally register so I could share some pics of what's left of my Camaro after hitting a tree. The accident occurred one day after picking up my black 2SS/RS from the dealer.

Broke my back, both of my wrists, my ankle, and suffered a concussion. I guess I'm just glad I'm alive.

Unfortunately, we don't know for sure since I had a concussion. It happened in the middle of the day when I was driving my Camaro and my girlfriend was a couple miles behind following me in my old Trailblazer. We were taking the Trailblazer to my mother since she had purchased it from me.

I'm glad I'm alive and very thankful nobody else was hurt. I spent two weeks in the hospital, but at least now I get to lay in a hospital bed at home, rather than at the hospital, and have a lot of people that are taking very good care of me. I do miss my car though, I was looking forward to one hell of a summer.

I really wish I didn't suffer a concussion so I could remember. All I will probably ever have is theories at this point as apparently nobody witnessed the accident. I can tell you for sure that I wasn't getting on it, or drunk, etc. Possibly I fell asleep or swerved to miss something, but I don't think I will ever know. The car was brand new and I refused to drive it hard while I was breaking in the engine. Shoot, I didn't even go over the speed limit when I was out on the interstate.

I am definitely thankful for all the airbags the car is equipped with, as this likely prevented more severe injuries.

It looks like a total loss, good thing you're not. How did this happen?

If you were knocked out, you may never know what happened. I nailed a pole in 1976 with my '72 Monte Carlo. Was unconscious for 3 days, hospital for 10 days, broken jaw, etc etc. To this day, 33 years later, I have no memory of the accident, or how it happened. Luckily I was alone as the engine was in the passenger side front seat.

Sorry for your loss, at least your alive!!

So that was your car ... very sorry to hear about that, but at least for the main part you are okay. It's not easy having a broken back, broke mine early this year snowboarding and it took a good 8 weeks for me to recover, but its not quite the same.

Insurance should take care of the car.

Do you mind me asking what happend to cause you to hit the tree? Did you loose control, tried avoiding something or someone, or just poor conditions?

This will be my first time driving a car with this much power, the previous was an M3 with 333hp and a fair bit of pick up. Just worried about the back breaking loose and having full control. Will be taking it easy for the first few months and nothing stupid on public roads.

Wow. That is impressive. Sorry about the car. But be very very happy you were able to post the pics today. That looks like it could have been a lot worse for you. Hope you fully recover from all of your injuries.

That is not uncommon, here in AZ the plate belongs to the owner not the car, my car will have it's plate as soon as I drive off.

In some states you transfer your plates from your old car to your new one. No need for temp tags. And he didn't break his hands, he said he's on bed rest at home. All you need is a laptop with a wireless connection.

I suppose this could be someone making this up, but if he was I would think he'd have an actual story about why he hit the tree. I see no reason to think he's not legit.

Edit: I just looked at the plates agian. Those are dealer plates.

You are kidding right?? A guy almost gets killed in an accident and your sitting at a computer doubting his story?

1) He may never remember what happened, he was knocked out and in the hospital for two weeks. As I stated above I was in a seroius accident and knocked out, 33 years later, I have absolutely no memory of the accident.

2) You can type with broken wrists.

Give him a break man.

Not really sure what you are asking. The photos I posted do show dealer tags, which were going to be swapped for my trailblazer plates that day, if I would have ever made it to my mother's.


I am definitely not sitting at my computer desk. I am laying in a rented hospital bed, pecking at the keys on my laptop like an 85 year old man that has been introduced to a computer for the first time.

WOW! Yeah...we saw these a while ago, but wondered about the story behind it.

Glad you are alive....since looking at the pictures made me believe that when the accident occurred, the car must have been moving close to 100mph. Hey, if you blacked out, there's no telling how fast you were going, though.

Yeah, I definitely want another one, I didn't get to enjoy it long enough. We will have to see how all these hospital bills add up to see if financially it still makes sense. On top of that, I will have to work hard and see if I can convince my gf and family that I should get another one.

I wonder if the "black box" can offer any insight into what happened. Regardless of why the accident occurred, you should consider yourself definitely lucky to be alive. How bad is your back? THAT injury is something not to mess around with...whatever the doc tells you to do...DO IT.

As far as the computer issue, I'm sure any type of distraction he can engage in helps him deal with the pain. He likely types quite slowly...though we have no idea how severe the breaks were. If there wrists were stabilized fractures (e.g., hairline), then typing is probably a whole lot easier compared to if they were unstabilized fractures.
