Borla S Catback on SS L99 Convertible
Convertible SS L99 (Automatic).
I took two videos. One with stock air cleaner and stock exhaust, and one with Borla S Catback & CAI air induction. I'll post pics soon. Stock exhaust. Borla S Catback This was the very first startup after installing the exhaust. That is why it is smoking so much. The pipes have some oil and other stuff in them from the manufacturing process. I also have a LS3 that I put the Borla S catbacks on. I love the fit of this kit. This kit fits the convertible BETTER than the stock exhaust. There is absolutely NO issues with the new convertible bracing. I'm going to weigh the stock exhaust, because I believe the Borla system is a huge weight savings. I did not weigh the Borla catback, so I'll have to look around to find the weight. The stock exhaust was way too gentle for my taste. It reminded me of a little kitten. This system sounds very good. Very deep rumble, and gets pretty loud when you gun it. Drone was pretty loud around 1200-1400 RPM. I don't think the drone is this loud in my coupe. If you don't like it loud, I would recommend the Borla Touring Catback. I don't think many would like the louder ATAK. The "S" is plenty loud for me. Because the convertible top transmits sound so much better than the coupe, you can really hear the roar. This system might be too loud if used with high flow cats and headers. Installed pics coming tomorrow.

Thanks for the update. Definitely like the deep growl and sound, however, would not be happy with the drone; especially in the Vert. Have a Solo "drone free J-pipe" system coming soon for an identical setup (CAI, inc and L99) and will post a comparison video as well.

Borla S-Type on mine. The Touring (not enough), The Atak (Too much). The S-type (Just right). No probs on the install. However... the droaning sound is really amplified in the convertible at low rpm's. The best fix is turning of the AFM (Automatic Fuel management). I just had my vert custom tuned at "The Vette Doctors" here in Long Island and the first thing they did was turn that off. Major difference. Much smoother ride overall. Love it!

572HP, how was the setup for you? Did you take it somewhere or do it yourself?

I did it myself. The catback system is very easy to install. All is needed is ramps or jack stands, a screwdriver (for bending back the retention tabs on the stock exhaust connectors), 15mm deep socket and ratchet, some cold beer, dry ground, and about 1 hour. Have I said that the fit is perfect?
The most difficult part for me was getting the old system out. The stock exhaust should be able to drop straight down, and pulled from under the back side of the car. However, I used a 4-post car lift, which made it difficult to get out the stock exhaust, because the back end was not jacked up. I ended up cutting one of the garbage cans / pillows / mufflers off so I could get it out.

So...my wife and I are getting closer to picking up a Vert. I have been thinking about adding the Borla S..but hadn't even considered how it would sound in a coupe vs a vert. (I'm a dope.) So...with the ragtop..is the Borla S now.."overwhelming"?

I would consider it "loud". It doesn't really bother me though. The wife has not been in it yet, so I don't know if it will have the wife acceptance factor. The drone is pretty loud. I don't know how much is added by the active fuel management on the automatic yet. I'm going to get that tuned out and then we'll see. I would love to be able to turn afm on and off. Maybe I need to buy a tuner.
I would love to hear the touring on the vert. It might be a very good middle.

I had my wife and two boys on the long road trip this weekend, and nobody complained. They all really like the sound of the car. However, after we got home, my wife and I both felt like we were subjected to loud noise for a long period of time. I was also trying to manage the drone the whole time. I would love to try the touring model. But I don't think anyone is going to send me one.
