Question AM I THE ONLY ONE LEFT WONDERING.....

...what the exciting news was going to be at the launch?

Why the silence suddenly? Did I miss something?

I believe the surprise was the mpg on the maro. at least that's my guess from all the info released about it... that or the surprise was the builder on the site... one of the two

The whole day was a nice little surprise.

I think Al is just a very enthusiastic person.

It would be nice if someone at GM would state unambiguously what the big news really was just to put an end to all this speculation. I can't say how many hours of my life I spent (pathetic, to be sure) on Monday scouring the threads looking for the Big News. MPG? Okay, nice, but I don't think any of us are buying this car for the MPG.

MPG? I couldn't care less...

I was waiting for a Z28 info knowing they wouldn't however kill the SS sales by annoucing a Z28.

I guess they considered that the "big news" was the prod launch and the 2 first maros.

I admit the tease wasn't worth for such info

If I am not mistaken the web site was launched with 27 mpg for V6 and 23 for the V8. The actual 29/25 is so HUGE I am not sure some of you realize how huge. This in today's environment is like saying "hey we just found 50 hp because we've been working so hard on the Camaro"

I agree with Number 3. The MPG is huge and they need that right now. The news media and everyone is dinging GM for coming out with this car. But saying look it gets good mileage is a big step.

GM has brought excitement back to Chevy!! And that is what is needed, exciting cars to get folks to the show room floor.

The big news was a mix of a lot of what was mentioned here already - the MPG, the new site, etc - plus the fact that some Camaro5 members were there for the launch and that Rick was there signing autographs and shaking hands. On top of that, they are pumping out over 100 cars a day. We should be thrilled about all of that.

I think everyone who is hoping for a Z28 is hoping in vain. An extremely high-end model in a stressed economy is unlikely. We all know that they have a design and they can pull it out when times get better. Be patient.

I think everyone just read into it too much, and blew his words way out of proportion. We made the "news" to be a much bigger deal than he intended...

Yes I suppose the mileage, the new camaro website is cool ( I can look at a CGM SS/RS with stripes) and they built 150 camaros that day... I guess that is good news

My prediction is now that we have the camaro out and it is such a great car....the media won't even acknowledge the car. You've got Mullaly (sp) from ford & Csere from Car and Driver telling the car Czar we need $3.00 gas, and we should tax it if necessary. Hybrids have gone in the tank and you can't give them away, because people (in general) don't wan them. I agree the mileage is outstanding. I would not be surprised if guys are getting at least 28-30 mpg in the SS on the highway. My dad gets 32mpg in his big thirsty V8 Corvette. 32 guys that is awesome.

I can't speak from experience, however based on what I have seen so far....this car is head and shoulders above anything Japan can offer, maybe not quite on par with Europe (fit and finish wise). Now that GM is getting great cars out there....the media will ignore them. What they should be doing is hailing these accomplishments from the mountain tops. Let everyone know GM is putting great cars out there. They certainly helped people know when they were putting less than stellar cars out. Seems one sided to me.
